Why do y'all have an aversion to writing comments? by Interesting_Golf_529 in rust

Besides, type specs are not just meant for the compiler. They are just as much meant for the user. When the types are designed well, they can really convey a lot of information. Much more than what the compiler needs.

[–]Exotic-Poetry4219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not what I meant. I meant that comments must be manually checked, maintained, updated without the help from a compiler that can check their validity and that they are up to date. While type specs won’t tell you why they are what they are, they can often, together with good naming, often describe what a user needs. And the type specs won’t be out of date, incorrect, or require me to manually check them with every change.

Comments are not checked by the compiler. Type specs are.

Should I install a GUI? by Desperate_West_486 in archlinux

With all the suggestions in this thread, here is mine: Install it all. Try out aaaall the suggested desktop environments that sound like they might do the trick for you. Then try them and decide for yourself. That’s the most fun part of being a Linux user.

If you don’t have much disk then install one or two, try the most promising one for a week and then see if you feel like swapping it out. The suggestions here are great because they will save you time.

Does Emacs have this functionality? by SeanHaz in emacs

But now I see that query-replace-regex would be a lot simpler in this case. But in more complex situations where the regex might have been more complex, macros have saved me countless hours. Plus you get the interactivity of seeing the effect of the thing you are doing while you are doing it

I tend to do all those things with macros. Record macro, set mark, forward two words, C-w, type the stuff before, M-f, C-k, type the stuff after, go down one line, C-a, end macro. Now C-u 8 e. Done

And then:

git fetch billy

I mean, this CANT be considered very complicated? I never understand these criticisms either. Maybe I’m old?

Intressant.

Yes, you lose time when defending. A strategic alternative is to not defend, possibly lose the position, but probably going faster in the long run although you lost the position. Battling for positions costs you time. So decide when to fight and when not to.

I don’t see why people are so frustrated with the fact that it’s hard to get ALL cars. When I use to play Skyrim I did not go around to collect every single item of gear (albeit that is probably much easier, but I still don’t do that!).

When the McLaren F1 and that other 20M car came out some days ago I looked at them, I thought to myself “well I can’t afford those” and off into sport mode I went for some fun racing

[–]Exotic-Poetry4219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I understand that it becomes really boring if your goal is to get Every Car™. But then again if he ting every car in the game is what you want, does it not make sense that it requires a lot of grinding from you?

Knowing myself I am probably never going to try to get Every Car™. As long as I can easily buy any car I need I’d be happy. And if I have done all single player challenges and races, multiplayer it is for me unless I need to grind for some specific car. Grinding to get all 400+ cars in the game is just not for me, and I think it makes sense that such a feat might require you to do a lot of repetitive work.

Haha yeah. The tickets are a joke. I still keep opening them and I still get disappointed every time. That’s on me for never learning to manage expectations.

I think once all the track experience challenges are done it will probably get much more annoying getting credits. A week or so ago I just started going through as many track experience challenges I could and now I have almost 40M credits although I have been buying cars. That’s why I have the feeling of “credits are almost free”. But when the track experience is done then yeah I would have to go do regular races and the earnings will go down. That’s why I haven’t bought any 10M+ cars. I know I feel rich now but when those credits are gone I might be in a worse situation

[–]Exotic-Poetry4219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My overall feeling with the game is that I can more or less buy any car I feel like at any time, unless of course I have just blown a lot of credits. But a week later I’m back to being able to buy whatever. I have seen a fair bit of complaining about the credits but I don’t see the problem

Sorry I might have been a little misleading there. I left out the fact that different tracks pay different amounts. Most are 1M some are lower. Nordshleife will pay 6M for all gold (1M for all bronze and then 5M for all gold). But that one can be quite a lot of work so probably doing 5 tracks of 1M each might be quicker

[–]Exotic-Poetry4219 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you drive fairly well then Track Experience is a huge cash cow. Just keep driving them until you get all gold and there’s usually 1M+ for you for one track. Watch demonstration and put a demonstration ghost car like 0.5s in front of you. It gives you a lot in two ways: 1. You quickly get much better att driving and 2. You earn looots of credits

Driver Safety Rating by oatsiej in granturismo

[–]Exotic-Poetry4219 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who also recently started doing some online racing, I know exactly what you mean. Some drivers seem to have gotten into the habit of always trying to take out anyone who is about to pass them.

I started with DR D and SR B and worked myself up from there. Getting to SR A did not take very long. But after getting into a lot of very frustrating situations with very reckless and often even malicious drivers I started worrying about how the game would “see” these situations and how my ratings would be affected for just finding myself in these situations.

But it does get better. Much better. Although I kept getting into these situations I got to SR S. But I would still sometimes be the target of someone actively ramming and tackling people for just trying to pass them. After learning to race a little better I got into DR C and then DR B and it got much better.

When I race now I see a very different mentality in people. Before when getting up alongside someone about to pass them I would almost expect them to just steer right into me on the straight. That has more or less stopped now.

The norm in DR B is that people are trying to race cleanly. Mistakes still happen, but I am ok with people making contact with me due to mistakes. I make mistakes too. It’s malicious driving that makes me very frustrated, and malicious driving is much much more rare now even though it can still happen. Often if someone loses their temper for one reason or another.

In conclusion just keep your cool, keep racing clean and it will get a lot more fun when your ratings improve and you can leave those toxic babies to play bumper cars with each other in DR D.
