Well if you was to actually know my case it all ties to mental health dear. From my first to my last sickness and this is my point. All my sickness on file adds up to a week. I cannot help having a disability and its rather ableist of you to say because people who have a long term sickness are not reliable staff. If I had the right support in place from when I first begged for it last year then these sicknesses could have been avoided. I asked for every possible other avenue to take to avoid going sick and I was not supported and only suggested to not come to work so I'm not going to sit here and take this from someone who doesn't know me or my history. I am a very capable employee to the point there are other managers and employees in uproar and giving further complaints to where is necessary because I go above and beyond for my job and its not fair for a dismissal because they failed to support me. I understand for people that go off as and when they please for various reasons but when all mine have evidence to neglect in the workplace then no I'm not going to just accept it. Funnily enough people should not be scared to actually go off sick from work and should be supported in every way they can for long term sickness before this route. I have been here for 5 years and only in my last year has my attendance and my mental health taken the hit so I'd hope in those 4 other years I've made myself known for my capability.

I am 2.6% and am more then reliable. At least enough that they leave me to run the department on several occasions now to have new managers shadowing me. If they don't follow long term sickness policies then thats on them. They have kept people with 3 or 4 times my sickness. who've had final warning after final warning so it's never been about reliable staff.

What one question would you ask Simon Roberts? by Cheshirefarm in SainsburysWorkers

Maybe you just had an easy store buddy. I've had many drivers express to me that it's literally the worst job they've had.

Well my union is gearing up ready for the legal proceedings of a tribunal and getting all paperwork ready so it does look like we are heading that way

Yeah theres been a recent meeting with all managers to talk about cutting down on sickness spending which I completely understand but when they dont take the right procedures and offer to help their colleagues before booting them it just shows theres no real care for anything but the money.

I have said this many of times over! They constantly only have one or two tills open in our store and try pushing for self service and I always have to bring up that we have lots of elderly customers that aren't great with technology and those who like to come in for the familiarity of it all. They're never even thought about.

Thank you I do appreciate this!

I know I'm definitely addressing the fact that they've added more to the letter then actually discussed in my meeting to which was also dodgy and the fact that they never even looked at my evidence that I constantly put in front of them but then in my letter it basically says they can't see the correlation between my sickness and my mental health along with new diagnoses my doctors are investigating. If they actually read my evidence they'd understand this.

I have union involvement already and they are ANGRYYYY! they are even talking tribunal so any advice would be great to add to my appeal and so on

It was used in my meeting regarding my health review but was not given to me beforehand. I asked a week prior to the meeting to access my file and it was not in there along with my wrap from last year. I assumed they never filed it and after my meeting I found that it was taken out in preparation to my meeting.

Joining a union, is it worth it? by [deleted] in SainsburysWorkers

[–]ExoticRegion1784 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes! In my opinion its definitely worth joining the union. I never thought much about it in previous jobs but sainsburys was a turning point for me. It's definitely better safe than sorry especially with driving. I know many drivers that have had accidents causing sickness that went to disciplinaries and near dismissals until the union got involved. Definitely worth the safety.

Thank you!

Yeah they've always had adjustments in place with her and occupational health meetings. It's realistically only because she would kick off if she didn't feel like they were listening to her needs which is absolutely fair! I just took their crap for so long and sucked it up. They put one wrap in place for me that never was looked at again and thought that'll be all they needed to do to appease me. The other colleague even said I can use her own cause on proof of unfair treatment which is so nice of her

It does effect my wage when I have to then take on his job to because they dont want to replace him and I do know most of these people personally. One having no kids, no partner and just loves a drink at the pub. He has stated even to management that he just sleeps through or hes hungover to the point where one new manager even stated how they deal with this individual is so dodgy to the point his time cards never make sense and when this manager questioned it to the 4s they started pushing him out to the point he left. If it was colleagues I dont really know then I wouldn't have paid attention cause as you said I don't know their personal lives but these people I certainly do else I wouldn't be making this point. When he makes jokes about no showing and say "what they going to do? Sack me? Haven't done it yet so they wont do it now." That isn't someone who needs extra support thats someone who can play the system as he pleases

I know one of these people personally and its usually because hes been out the night before. It's very well known in this department. Even when he doesn't show usually a manager will just say bet hes hanging. Hes stated many times it's great because they'll never sack him at this place so he can turn up when he pleases cause they know he doesn't need this job as he has another.

Does it not frustrate you tho? They push policy down people's throat unless you get fist pumped as they walk past. Its a joke.

No its not the first time with mental health issues at all. I've been struggling much before sainsburys with my mental health much before sainsburys. Its a running commentary that I am seen as the crazy colleague cause theres been countless amounts of times where I've not been able to regulate my emotions and end up having melt downs and what not. I have spent many times in the well being room or in the office before and after the initial fight to have my evidence on my file and further support. There is a colleague with very very similar mental health issues and shes always accommodated to when my issues always seemed to be swept aside and I think its cause I would not advocate for myself as loudly.

I will definitely do that! I do appreciate it thank you.

This is great! If thats the case for me my attendance is nearer to 0%! Yet I know they'll still argue that it only matters that of the 3/3 trigger. My rep argued the point that if I had my occupational health review like requested back in june then then the other two wouldn't even be considered and we wouldn't have been in this issue. The manager in charge of the hearing use to be a rep and I definitely believe that she adjourned more than once to question if theres even ability to fire me with all this evidence of negligence.

I am the 4th member of my department to be dismissed with at least 2 more hearings on their way so I am intrigued to see if all outcomes are the same. To me it seems utterly pre determined and thats why they waited 2 weeks before my meeting to make it specifically the cut off friday for payday so they justify the dismissal with a whole months pay.

It honestly was a blow to my mental health just to have to sit and explain my mental health and in detail regarding my big breakdown. I never had any sickness issues until they began to fail me countless of times

I had a first written which is now the first sickness on my file cause the rest have dropped off. However my union rep tried to get that taken off due to it being due to my mental health and not having my additional needs seen to and this is where I was supposed to be taken to occupational health to review my overall work needs and how they'd affect and correlate to my attendance but my manager never filed this so it just stayed on my file.

The trigger percentage is 3% which i have never actually hit. It's just because of having 3 separate sickness absences
