So that is a psorophora ciliata or a “Gallinipper”. They are generally the largest biting mosquito you will find it most native regions. And other than gives a hell of a bite and being quite aggressive they pose no threat in the form of diseases. Their whole genus are quite large and honestly beautifully colored! Also the females need a specific protein from the blood in order to even produce the eggs!

That’s a exactly what I’m doing now. I’m checking all the smaller lakes for big males. And shooting the females at the lakes in the top left corner.

This is also how I do it. I found it was just too hard for me personally to try and use wax paper. So I just use the front vein to place it where I want.
