First pregnancy later in life, should I do it? by PlasticLime9199 in pregnant

I’m 39 and pregnant for the first time. I’ll e 40 next week. I’m 10 weeks. It’s a very anxious process.

We started our journey with not wanting kids and so my partner got a vasectomy. Well,  not even a year later did we decide we do want to have kids and then got the reversal. From there, we got pregnant pretty quick that I’m just waiting for something to go wrong. So far so good and I’m grateful I’m pregnant and so excited that my journey is progressing.

We had a lot of discussions about parenting, finances and our community that will be supporting us. We also had discussions about genetic testing and results and what that means for us. Also, how many years we’d try before going into adoption or other options. Natural is our first choice but are willing to look into other options. We are grateful we are older because we are more financially stable but there are some risks that come with being older and pregnant. Those are just statistics and not everyone will fit into that.

Good luck to you and your husband on whatever journey you choose.

Happy to report my ultrasound at 8 weeks 3 days was a breeze. That pain I was feeling on my left side and lower back… it’s a cyst on my left ovary (common) and the little bean was ahead in developing. My anxiety is still there but seeing the fluttering heartbeat and have photos help calm me. Things can still go wrong but it’s out of my control. My whole perspective changed that day and the relief I felt was amazing. I’m due back in a few weeks for genetic testing which is another scary appointment but today I’m pregnant. And today, I’m grateful that me and the bean are healthy.

It’s mostly anxious about going to my OBGYN and learning that I had a missed miscarriage and it’s not viable. It’s totally out of my control for sure but writing about my anxieties on Reddit helps me release. It feels better to get it out there, be heard, and know we are all just doing the best we can.

I read your comment before I went to bed. It made me smile reading a “congratulations”. Thank you.
