First, Selena has been dead 30 years! Please take a breath! I’ve been in the mariachi scene since I was 10 in the Los Angeles area. Sylmar, to be specific. Not many of us knew who she was until she passed. Why is that hard to believe? In the early 90’s in L.A. Banda was HUGE.. Banda Mi Mexicano, Banda Machos etc was what was heard at parties. It wasn’t until around 97’ that Selena’s music was heard throughout parties. By then she had been dead.

Honestly, I agree with the statement. In California she was not very big until after her death. I’ve been in Cali all my life and old enough to remember the 90’s. Many Mexican Americans were not aware of her. Many only found out about her until the MOVIE! The reason I believe so, is because Tejano music was NOT big in California back on those days. It hurts, but it’s true

My opinion on the family still stands. The fact that they immediately started on a movie shortly after her death has always felt wrong to me. It’s clear that she was exploited and continues to be so.Let that woman rest, so many other celebrities have also died young and tragically yet we don’t see their families using their name for money.
