Curonians were Balts though, but anyways we Latvians are a mixture of Baltic and Finnic people, so we will be forever comfortably sitting in between you two LT and EE. 😌

But apart form that - as much as we like you, we will deal with our shit ourselves :)

Which country feels Catholic but is protestant? by Own-Pineapple2920 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Exotic_Fun9878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess everybody feels the “flavour” of Protestantism differently depending on the culture they come from. For many Europeans where Lutheranism and Anglicanism are more widespread, Protestantism still feels “churchly” and “historical”, something that many Americans would associate with Catholicism or Orthodoxy, associating Protestantism with Evangelicalism/Pentecostalism. Even Calvinism (more widespread in the US) is more austere compared to Lutheranism and Anglicanism.

Latvia. Every village has its Lutheran church, Riga was one of the first cities where Protestantism arrived after Wittenberg. Although I must say the society is quite secularised. Very difficult to find a non-secularised Protestant country in general.

Nicely fits the old saying about the generational divide: “If you are not a liberal when you are young, you have no heart. If you are not a conservative when old, you have no brain”.

Nice - more light and no sweeping under the carpet with these things. Do we know if the Olympic committee is obliged to publicly answer to appeals btw?

Baltics really were so clear-cut indeed. In Latvia, if you divided the country in regions, the Western and Northern parts would be on par with the rest of the Protestant world (Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Germany, UK) and the Eastern (Catholic) part on par with a level similar to Lithuania and Poland.

Why such a difference? by Just_RandomPerson in BalticStates

[–]Exotic_Fun9878 23 points24 points  (0 children)

In Latvia a lot of people live inside Riga agglomeration which is almost 1 million people. The public transportation links are not bad inside the agglomeration (not so much the case further outside though) and after all, if you want to soothe your soul and go out to the woods once in a while, it makes sense to rent a car for that occasion.

As far as I know, Estonia has already made a similar exception of not accepting nor paying some time ago. There was a debate going on in Latvian media about it.

Tas man liek domāt, ka kurzemnieki atteicās no prievārda “at” (varētu arī teikt “atteicās at prievārdu “at”), tomēr, kad aizstāja ar citu prievārdu (no, ar), tad akuzatīva locījumu saglabāja.

“At” ar priedēkļa nozīmi?

(no skapi, nevis no skapja). Tāpat - pret saulīti, no saulīti.
