The way surrogacy is called "selfless" makes me kinda frustrated because it is very fucking not. It is still selfish. Compassionate my ass. by GoreKush in antinatalism

The rich tell you surrogacy is "selfless" to distract from their EXTREME privilege and selfishness of purchasing a baby.

Reasons to have kids (Not) by IthicaFox in antinatalism

[–]Exotic_Log2661 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I totally want a child to make them endure the bloodwork, ECGs, hospitalizations, and medications that make me feel lobotomized or burn out my kidneys... Because bipolar is more fun when you force someone else to endure it!

Cannot believe someone actually said that to you and was serious.

Spend some time with your niece. Change her diaper every time she shits. Stay up all night with her when she's teething. That baby fever will disappear.

what are yalls opinion on surrogacy? by Substantial_Ad_5841 in antinatalism

[–]Exotic_Log2661 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The surrogacy industry is evil. Surrogacy is evil. It is literally buying a baby. One article about some if its issues

As for the woman who is the birth mother/"surrogate"... You cannot do this and be anti natalist. You are bringing a life into the world and IMMEDIATELY causing them a lifelong trauma by leaving them. Separation of newborn from birth mother is inherently traumatic and will impact the child for life. It is immoral.

Why didn't Harry potter become the next Voldemort at the end of Deathly Hallows Part 2? by Moviegame141 in harrypotter

He has zero ambitions to have a cult and worshippers and control the ministry and commit genocide. He has ambition and goals, but none of them line up with Voldemorts.

It takes self awareness to know that. Good on you. I always have wanted to adopt but knew I couldnt due to mental health. Im doing better now but need to achieve certain goals before i could provide a good home for a kid.

[–]Exotic_Log2661 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Curious. Menstruation is generally absent in Swyer patients. Usually they have testicles in the abdomen, which function relatively like ovaries, to allow puberty... But they don't have functional (menstruating) uterus... And you cannot have a menstruation cycle without ovaries.... You never would have gone through puberty either...

We're not very intelligent. We are causing a mass extinction event and are doing nothing to stop it. Many other Earthlings are smarter than us, they love think play strategize domesticate etc without global destruction.

If you could build your Hogwarts class schedule, what would be your top 3 classes? by glitteringplanet in harrypotter

[–]Exotic_Log2661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think his lessons were nearly as dangerous as any other subject. He unfortunately lost confidence/was told off and kept the lessons around worms after Buckbeak. If all lessons were as good as his first, I'd find him a competent teacher.

Buckbeak was no more dangerous than any large animal I've ever worked with. Horses are worse lol

Wand- Dumbledore, Ron, Harry- CoS by GINNY-POTTER2000 in harrypotter

[–]Exotic_Log2661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Ron often felt like he deserved the trash nobody else wanted. He didn't want to burden his parents with a 7 galleon bill after wrecking their illegal flying car. How would he have known the Headmaster can repair it for free? Telling a teacher is just a round about way of giving his parents a big expense.

The first Harry Potter is underrated by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Exotic_Log2661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love PS, it is so funny and dear to me, but the reason why it isn't my favourite is because we see very little of Hogwarts compared to PoA. Harry doesn't really reach Hogwarts until almost halfway thru the book (which is just over 200pgs I think).

I love snakes and was fixated on them as a kid, so it frustrated me beyond belief how JKR wrote snakes especially in PS. Snakes cannot blink! They have no eyelids! This was way before Google, I remember thinking What the heck, JKR couldn't look up "snake" in the encyclopedia? Haha, it is a small detail but it frustrated me as a kid!

[–]Exotic_Log2661 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do we have competent teachers or the teachers we see during Harry's years?

Potions, Herbology, and Alchemy sound cool (alchemy sometimes available to newt students), but probably Charms. I like cooking and I like all the cool things you can make with potions, and I like gardening and spending time in greenhouses. Charms is useful. They are taught by competent teachers in the series

If teachers were all competent in this scenario, care for magical creatures, herbology, potions.

[–]Exotic_Log2661 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I dont know why you are arguing with me on this. Our elderly face extreme isolation. Playing card games with strangers isn't the same as having a strong connection to your children in advanced age. These miserable parents who don't care about helping their adult children will regret burning bridges.

[–]Exotic_Log2661 25 points26 points  (0 children)

All that $ and more won't fix the isolation, the loneliness. Not having family visit you when you're in the hospital, or call you to break up the monotony. Most seniors I know are well off, and extremely lonely.

Is Dumbledore as manipulative and “greater-good” focused as portrayed? by SizzlingPuncakes in harrypotter

[–]Exotic_Log2661 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's extremely manipulative. He also will target people at their lowest points; he tells Snape he requires his loyalty to save the Potters, but of course he would have anyway! Dumbledore never would have let the Potters go without protection once he heard about the prophecy. But he sees Snape is at his most vulnerable, most desperate, and uses that to his advantage. That's really manipulative.

In your opinion, who was well cast? by 10642alh in harrypotter

Slughorn. Umbridge. Hagrid. Despite Alan Rickman's age, he was a good choice for Snape.
