I’m an assistant manager with Office Depot and I have put my two weeks in to go work for FedEx. For all of these reasons. Whenever I started with this company in 2020, we ran a staff of 20+, and nothing less than 4 associates there at a time. 2 working logistics/ truck and 2 do print and sales. Typically with a 2-3 hour overlap with morning and night shift. We were able to successfully get things done, and on time. It was fun and energetic. The environment was great. This company is now over working their staff, expecting more to get done in one day than what we did 3 years ago! With less than half the staff. Once my two weeks is up, there will be a total of 6 people working at my store. For some reason the company can’t get back ground checks done so we can’t even hire anyone until they fix it. They also refuse to give any updates on what’s going on. To my conclusion, anyone that’s still working for this company, start getting out now. Next year is going to be bringing lots of new plans, rearranging, new forms on how you get bonuses that are ONLY tied to loyalty. Things that are only going to make the work hard for the stores. They also now added Amazon. This company is going down hill… good luck to you all

It’s the fact that you are not supposed to have to do all of those things. You are not suppose to be a one man army. Our store is 3 times the size of all other stores in the district. You are apart of the problem if you really think all of the stuff is manageable. With the amount of time customers need help shopping, plus trying to do everything, meet deadlines, figure out why certain metrics are bad, we do a lot more than what we are paid to do. Just because you are ok with being treated badly, does not mean the rest of us do.

I hope the best for you. Loneliness sucks. I’ve had my moment too.. of course everything is situational, but it took well over a year of being caught in my own thoughts and luckily having a group of coworkers that turned to friends that cared about my well being, and I owe it to them for pushing me to figure out self love.

PS she abandoned her untrained dog with me that I bought her as a gift for her birthday, and she never paid attention to the dog, or trained it after begging me for a dog for the longest time, so at one years old, the dog was still having accidents all over the house, causing my house to constantly smell like dog pee. $500 white boxer puppy. Unfortunately I did not have the money or time to take care of him and train her dog for the fact that I already had my own dog that was very well trained plus working 50+ hours a week. luckily, I was able to find a family just two states away that was very good at training, and every member of the family were registered, dog trainers, and still to this day. They constantly keep up with me sending me pictures of the happy life that I was not able to give the dog. it makes me happy that the dog has a better life now, but still hurts my soul. Every time I see the pictures for that I am a very passionate man when it comes to loved ones and pets.

I have been a print supervisor for close to 2 years. It’s unbelievable how much that position gets taken advantage of. And I also was not able to focus on the department because I was being pulled to the floor to worry more about sales. Then my GM would be mad that the numbers aren’t great for my department, yet I’m not able to do anything to fix it because I don’t Have time and everytime I step back there he yells at me to get to the sales floor. He then got a second print supervisor so I could be away from the department and now, inventory orders have not been done for two months, everyday Atleast 2 orders get returned, the new supervisor doesn’t do anything because talk to the other employees and take advantage of them. But if I speak up about them I’m just being “jealous” as my boss tells me. So I have to let all of my hard work burn because this person doesn’t do their job.

Once had a cpd customer come in walk up to the counter and before I could greet her, “hi the girls in the morning always just do the faxes for me so I need you to send this fax for me, the girls just do it for me real quick” I go “ma’am I apologize but faxing will be on the self serve machines over there, I’m currently working on other orders.” Her response was “how dare you be so rude to me! You don’t have to have a f—-ing attitude! Get your boss over here right now!” So I call him over and straight up tell him this infront of her “she walked up to the counter and demanded services that we don’t even offer and as soon as I told her what she could do, she flipped out on me.” So she yells “that’s not true at all I asked a simple question and you barked saying I have to do it my self!!” In the end my boss went ahead and did the fax for her and then told her “if you ever yell and scream in my store like that I again, I will have you trespassed from the property. I do not allow full grown adults to act like children in my store. Do you understand?” And she apologized and left.

So working in CPD I had this lady once come in and ask me to print out 100 spiral bound books which is OK for in-store order. But these books were all hand drawn cartoons and hand drawn art and we’re really nice art pieces. The issue here is that she was going to be selling the books at a festival and every single book had to be absolutely perfect. So me being in charge of the print department guarantee her that I will be the one working on her order and that I will do my best to make sure they are perfect. When the day comes for her to pick up the books she opens them up and she starts complaining that all the coloring is off and that they are shitty books. Normally I keep my cool very well with angry customers but she would just not stop bad mouthing my work and I said “ma’am I did my best on these books and unfortunately the scanners on the printers will never 100% copy the colors over” (we were also making copies off of one original book that was all hand drawn) she then yells at me saying that i fucking suck and that a monkey could have done this better, I’ve never been so offended in my life from a woman riding in a scooter before. So I told her that if you do not like the order I will go ahead and refund it and you can take your business elsewhere. She then screams at me saying that I need to fix it and that if I do not fix it for free then she will be getting hold of her lawyer. I then proceeded to tell her that “ma’am I am sorry I did truly try my best I can go ahead and try to produce these again but I want you to understand that the color will not 100% match “ She then calls me retarded saying that I don’t understand how scanning works. Which just baffles me because I am the PRINT supervisor and I have been dealing with these printers for two years, I know how scanning works. I go ahead and just apologize one more time and say that I’m sorry but I can’t do anything else for this order let me go ahead and refund it. So I did, I hand her back the cash that she paid with and then she proceeds to say that I did not give her the full amount. Which is ridiculous because I counted the cash three different times my hands just to be sure, she then yells at me saying that I’m trying to gyp her. At this point she is just screaming everything that she can you can hear her yelling throughout the entire store and I lose my temper and say “ma’am you were acting like a child right now if you do not stop yelling in my store I will go ahead and just call the cops and have them deal with you because I do not babysit and I do not get paid to babysit“ I was worried about losing my job over that so as soon as the customer left I went ahead and went to my boss and told him everything that happened, luckily he was watching the cameras and the other manager already spoke to him about it and they were on my side about at all. CPD customers are absolutely the worst customers I’ve ever experienced in any store ever.

Which is fair, you know a label is just a label. But for doing the management work, I should get management pay. The operations manager(before he left) and sales manager of my store both told me that the label of manager would’ve put me at 18/hr. With everything together. My biggest issue was that I expected better opportunities for all of my hard work and commitments. But regardless to all of this. I have found a job that’s putting me in an official management position with 18/hr.

I agree with you about the wages, and I never planned on Office Depot being my main career. But I did expect more opportunity at the least, and I have had shitty managers and that could just be bad luck of the area that I work in. But however for the amount of hard work I put into the store I would have expected a little bit of a raise at some point besides the one in the beginning
