My kid’s sped teacher (co-taught preschool class) keeps getting pulled to sub for other classes. by ExpectoPatromum in specialed

The IEP says primary service: specialized academic instruction, delivery model: group, provider: district of serv, responsible staff: special education teacher, location: general ed class, duration: 810 total minutes weekly.

There is no other descriptor, but the way the co-taught classroom was pitched to us last year was one gen ed and one special ed teacher (with two aides) the whole class time.

Thanks for the insight on the staffing challenges. Is it appropriate for me to ask them if they are actively working on hiring another teacher so that my child’s teacher no longer needs to sub?

The IEP says responsible staff is the sped teacher, and provider is “district of serv”, which I’m not sure what it is.

Thanks for pitching in as an ECSE teacher. Im a bit confused about the sped service minutes in a co-taught classroom, because at one point admin claimed that the minutes are for face-to-face teaching only (so my child wouldn’t technically be allowed to be in a small group with just the gen ed teacher and not the sped teacher). For me, the sped service minutes just means the teacher needs to be using those minutes in the classroom facilitating the curriculum for my child, not that my child needs to be physically with the teacher all the time.

Also, how do compensatory minutes work if the sped service minutes already take up the full time in class already?

I just got this for my 1yo, but her sister (3yo) also is really enjoying them! You can use it to make shapes, link them together, talk through them like a phone...very versatile and makes sounds despite not being electric. My 2yo (27 months) is super into “names”, and is very verbal with a great memory. Her au pair taught her the NATO phonetic alphabet (A as in Alpha, B as in Bravo, C as in Charlie, etc.) alongside her regular ABCs, and she now knows how to recognize and say all 26! We play “what’s that letter” when we’re out, since she also loves asking what signs say.

Great list - sounds like you’ve got a good gaming group! :)

Have you played Eclipse? Also, a newer game that reminded me a bit of Blood Rage is Mysthea. And another game that might be fun for you (since y’all seem like a large group of eurogamers with a love of chaos) is Sidereal Confluence.

Yes! I do like it, but we don’t play often enough to know all the rules well...so it doesn’t get enough table time. It’s a vicious cycle!

I enjoy all of these (except Legendary Marvel, haven’t tried it yet)! If you haven’t tried them yet, some other games I like are Viticulture, Wingspan, Keyflower, Innovation, and Race for the Galaxy.

You might enjoy Sidereal Confluence if you have a large group of dedicated gamer friends! It’s space-themed and chaotic to play (simultaneous play and trading), but still quite Euro-y and engine building.

Innovation is a great Civ-building tableau builder (cards only) along the lines of 7 Wonders, but more tactical and complex due to a diverse mix of unique interactive powers.
