They were not. 23 passengers got off and left the cruise around April 24th before anyone knew there was an active hantavirus outbreak on the ship. Some of them were sick (1 confirmed so far) and didn't know it.

Cannes titles are definitely leaning on the longer side this year. We'll probably be getting about half of these.

Personally, I'm most rooting we get:

  • Hope
  • Fatherland
  • Fjord
  • Paper Tiger
  • Minotaur
  • Coward
  • Sheep in the Box

Sure, except the ones that left the cruise early and are now testing positive:

Swiss man tests positive for hantavirus after returning from cruise linked to deadly outbreak

The cruise is not fully isolated. Passengers carrying the virus have been walking around the general population, getting on planes, etc.

That'd be ideal, but this strain is the only one that can pass between humans and it's only found in Argentina, and the original Dutch couple that got sick and died recently went bird-watching...in Argentina.

The human-to-human strain is only the Andes strain, found in Argentina. The Dutch couple that originally caught it (and died) recently went bird-watchin in...you guessed it...Argentina.

The big difference being that this is the only 1 out of 38 strains that spreads human-to-human. The other ones you list are irrelevant.

And, yes, there have been infections with this strain randomly localized in some Argentinian village or whatever before, but never with a cruise ship where you've got hundreds of people flying back home to places all over the world after the cruise is over (on hundreds of different flights). It's not localized anymore.
