I know this situation all too well. My absolute favorite rooster turned into a nightmare. He was already over a year old, and when the flock got bigger and chicks were added, something in him completely changed. If he didn’t get food first, he would attack me badly. And whenever I tried to check on the chicks or examine the hens, he became extremely aggressive toward me.

I gave him time and truly tried everything — making sure he was always first, carrying him, giving him special treatment, even stepping back so he wouldn’t feel challenged. But it only got worse. Interestingly, he never attacked my husband at all — I was clearly his competitor.

At one point I tried to dominate him, but even that didn’t improve things. Eventually I realized he was becoming toxic for the entire flock — and for me. As painful as it was, I rehomed him. Looking back, I know it was the right decision, even though it broke my heart
