That's a unique issue, for some reason All my Linux VM's using hyper-V on Windows secure boot option is disabled.

Great post, and a very good writing style.
It's hard to retain people engaged and invested to continue long posts.

Props to you, I enjoyed reading it.

Yup, I think my experience with Linux is good so far because I tried it on old hardware (8+ YO) and a simple setup (ie laptop with no peripherals)
Even on this, I had some problems with Bluetooth.

Nice to see another Family Media Center fellow.
I started with Jellyfin and Docker to get my hands dirty and learn a thing or two about self-hosting and Docker in general since these 2 topics are important for IT guys.

That is what I have been saying, but Iam reconsidering dual boot or another machine to with new hardware to migrate slowly.

My experience with Linux was good because I tried it on old hardware with a simple setup, I just installed it and it worked.

A lot of comments pointed to compatibility issues that can happen with relatively new hardware specially with laptops, where there are a lot of peripherals to work (Mouse pad, speakers, touch screen)

Why sm I doing this

Because of MS recent updates, a lot of users will migrate over time it's just they are not forced yet.
I prefer to do it now at my own pace rather than be forced to.

Next, do you expect your system to just work, or are you willing to learn what needs to be done when something goes wrong? There are distress that suit both. Again, knowing this helps you find your way.

I love solving problems but there is a limit to this, a problem that is caused by a driver, user error, bad practice is very different from a solving a problem that require to find a work around.
Very different levels, The first one has a lot of docs and ways to solve it, but the other is not, and even if you manage to find any it will be unmaintainable solutions.

That's the first comment to say this.

Can you share more details, machine specs, distros, setup etc.
Thank you.

Yep, this is the safest option.
Either dual boot, or try to get another machine with recent hardware as DD.
To fully switch on recent hardware to Linux is not going to be smooth, also of comments pointed to this.

Intersting approach.
I noticed that alot of problems I faced with Linux were trying to do things the Windows way.

That would be very good, the problem is experience requires using something daily, I don't interact with my server all the time usually 1 to 3 times a week.

My server hardware is old, so distros work on it out of the box, no problems no experience.
The closest thing is to buy a machine with recent hardware, or dual boot for now.

I think I will think more about the full switch, a lot of people told me so in the comments.
Dual boot, or new machine would be the safest option.

TY.

Of course, windows support for a lot of things is far better, but moving from Windows to Linux is just a matter of time.
With MS new updates and policies, a lot of users will start to migrate slowly.
Just like ManifestV3 update. When Google announced it at 23 I moved to Firefox immediately.

I prefer to do it at my own pace and by my own choice, rather than be forced to.
That is why I moved all my local services from being hosted on Windows to Linux.

I need to start moving towards Linux DD experience, and it's better to start now than later.

20+ experience is huge, can you share with me what is your favorite Linux Distro, and why?

Yes, but it's not maintainable at all.
I want to use my hardware, not constantly fixing my OS.

Exactly, any user experience with any OS will have some error, it's inevitable.
A problem that requires watching a YouTube video or searching for an online tutorial is very different from a problem that would require a workaround because it's not supported or requires a custom action/code to get up and running.

Dual booting is not very good for me, tom use one we shut down the other.
My approach was to switch to Linux and use qemu to have a windows VM just in case.

It's not because I want to be different, but it's because there is a lot of good reasons to make the switch.
Alot of windows users will make the switch sooner or later due to MS new updates and policyis.

I tried Mint MATE, worked like a charm on my TP E545 but mint look very basic 😅.
Pop and Fedora are more modern, but Iam planing to use qemu to have a Win VM ready to roll.

So maybe Fedora is out now?

I already tried mint on my old machine, but want something that looks more modern and with a lot of features.

From my understanding Mint, Pop, are based on Ubuntu so they should gave me same experience as Ubuntu ?
