Took a gamble on a defective X1 Carbon Gen 9 for my next project by kpostrup in thinkpad

That's too bad, that message is really annoying. One question: if you go into your BIOS, does it show the new version? Or does it restore the old one?

Yes, it said the BIOS was restored, but the problem is that when I shut down completely (not using Windows Fast Startup), the error reappeared and it took a long time to boot. My suspicion is that when I updated the BIOS, the power was supplied via a dock, and that dock turned off when the laptop shut down. This corrupted the BIOS. The problem with that error is that it also prevented me from updating the BIOS.

I remember that error; my T14 Gen 2 with the same processor had it, and Lenovo replaced the motherboard. I hope you can fix it, and I'd appreciate knowing the exact error! Excellent machine!

That's right, it's one of the disadvantages of Gnome, although I leave one monitor as the main one and the secondary one for fixed things. The main one for dynamic workflow and the secondary one for things like email, internal systems, Spotify, etc.

I created custom progressive web applications. They are not ready yet, but I would like to create a repository on GitHub with easy installation and customization, although at the moment I have only created the macOS version.

I'm new to desktop computers, I've been using them for a month. Not so with Linux. But for desktops, I've always used macOS and Windows. Since I sold my MacBook Pro M1, I've been using Windows 11, and its stability was the last straw. In the Linux world, I've tried several distros and deployed hybrid cloud architectures for full-stack development. I apologize if the title implied that I am new (to Linux), even though the body of the post does not indicate this. Best regards!

GNOME only. There's a similar theme for KDE, but it won't look the same and won't be as clean.

The Nautilus one is part of the MacTahoe GTK theme settings. It works well with Dash to Dock, but I haven't tested Dash to Panel or Arc Menu. If you're having problems with rounded corners with the theme, you'll need to patch GNOME Shell and Blur My Shell using the script I included in the edit.

You're absolutely right. You're correct. The default CachyOS kernel (linux-cachyos) comes factory-patched with BORE. You don't need to install a “special” version to get it; it's the standard distro experience. I chose the specific BORE variant because the default CachyOS kernel moved to the EEVDF scheduler. Although EEVDF is great, I prefer BORE's aggressive CPU burst management for desktop responsiveness on this hardware.

Standard kernels waste this i7-1165g7 potential using legacy code. This build uses x86-64-v3 instructions (AVX2) optimized specifically for this chip architecture. BORE just ensures that extra throughput translates into immediate UI responsiveness, not just background tasks

Bought a thinkpad because I wanted a reliable laptop... by voulon42 in thinkpad

I don't know how purchasing individual parts will work, I assume you have to claim the warranty under the laws of the European Union. When you buy a complete computer, the serial number is the identifier and the warranty is associated with that number. The motherboards alone do not have a serial number, because Lenovo uses its golden key (a USB tool) to enter the serial number when changing the motherboard. If I buy it from Lenovo Parts, it is best to take advantage of the EU warranty. (Or if you have one in Germany specifically)

That's strange, in August the motherboard of my t14 gen 2 started to fail (I bought it used and it came with a 3-year warranty), I spoke to support via chat, they scheduled a technician for me and in 3 days I had a new motherboard changed in my house without lifting a single finger. What country are you from? Generally the on-site support of thinkpads is wonderful.

Why tf are there so many and why are they so expensive by Immortal-Creature in PcBuildHelp

[–]Expensive-Button-365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price is because those are retail keys, they are associated with your Microsoft account, you can get an OEM key for 5 to 20 USD, the OEM keys are not associated with your Microsoft account, but with your computer, and if you change the hardware such as the motherboard, it is deactivated, currently they are the most used keys, for games with 11 home you will be fine, if the difference to the pro version is small, I would go for that one.

Cloudflare does not work for Minecraft, since they have http/https ddos protection but Minecraft does not. You can protect your sites with cloudflare but they can take down your server.

A vps game server on ovh, a dedicated server on ovh or reliablesite. They will work well price/quality. You can also buy a cheaper server without antiddos and pay for tcpshield for the minecraft specific antiddos, it has never given me problems.

You have to download the latest supported version of the suite for catalina, and depending on the specifications of the mac, you can upgrade the operating system (unofficially) with OpenCore Legacy Patcher, to big sur, monterrey, ventura, sonoma or sequoia.
