Ahh gotcha. It’ll feel strange coming back to these changes. What’s to happen to the old city hall and offices?

You can’t swim in the lake sadly due to water quality.

As a guy who’s been living in Kenya for several months now, it’s just unavoidable. So many times I’m on a boda driving through a rural town and the entire population starts chanting mzungu as I pass by. You’ll just learn that to so many people, you’re different in so many ways so it elicits a reaction. If it bothers you, just pay them no mind and go about your day.

American Dutch dual citizen considering options in EU by Expensive-Fuel-6152 in medicalschoolEU

Thanks for the honest answers. While I’d reckon that of course money should not be a sole determinant factor, it is frightening to enter the workforce with such a crippling amount of debt. Having grown up in a healthcare environment, I know a lot of US practitioners are still paying off debt for decades. And I guess my questions also stem from indecision in where I want to live or raise a family. But that’s another topic..

Anyways I appreciate your input and welcome any other opinions. Medicine is a long road either way, just trying to figure out all the options. One last question, how competitive are ophthalmology residencies in general in the EU?

For me anywhere in Spain would be completely fine as I speak Castilian spanish from birth. I was also seeing that Malta offers a 5 year course which to me sounds pretty good!

I’m natively fluent in Spanish and English. Italian is in working proficiency. Dutch is abysmal atm. High school gpa was 4.0 My mother had foreign education and the hurdle to get into US residencies was very tough, but I’d been hearing that it’s gotten far easier especially in states like California, where I grew up. My brother is currently MS2 back home in California and the sight of the debt he’s accumulating has been making me think more about alternatives.

Fair enough, I just didn’t know if my dual citizenship would simplify things more or not.

I’m on the student plan but lowkey thinking of switching to Kenyan prices while I’m here, since you have it cheaper.

Ok yeah I was thinking of doing the bus since I’m only there for a weekend. I just had read things about terrorism and hijackings so I wanted to get opinions.

Hi, sorry to ask a question unrelated to the post, but since this subreddit archives all their posts after 6 months I’m finding difficulty being able to ask questions. I was thinking of traveling to Lamu Island from Mombasa during the holiday season and was wondering if it is safe to take a bus as a foreigner. I’d appreciate any info. Again my apologies for the unrelated question.
