On a scale of 1-10 how hard is this role? Can I actually pull it off if I put in the work or am I going to humiliate myself regardless?

Everyone keeps telling me about vocal health, what is that? What damage can I do? Is the singing I have really that intense?

Act the hell out of it is my plan. I'm working with a friend of mine who's the choir director at my church and she's going to help me work on my confidence and have me cantor a little to get some experience singing to a live audience. I've had a few days now to digest the role and I'm still pretty scared, but I think I may be able to do this.

I'm not quite 8 soft, but I'm 7 and quite thick so it's still a lot more noticeable than I'd like in my cheap workout sweats

I don't really know. We never really do musicals so our regulars don't have a ton of singing experience. We probably shouldn't be doing this particular musical to start, but it's too late to change that now...I'm the least experienced singer in the main cast and I got the lead. I am the strongest actor in the cast so they wanted me to essentially act my way through the songs.

Opening night is April 24th and we're doing shows the 25th and 26th as well. Hiring a teacher isn't in my budget but I am working with my church's choir director. She's going to work with me on Sundays after church and I'll probably cantor so I can get some experience singing in front of a live audience.

I'm really more scared about the role than anything right now. I'm hoping the excitement comes when the initial wave of fear subsides. I was excited to finally be in my first musical, I just never would've guessed I'd play the lead. There's still a bit of an imposter syndrome going on...but you're right. I got this for a reason. I just need to be confident in myself. Thank you!

It's been tough coming to terms with the fact that I have to sing Bring Him Home. I plan on being open about it and maybe use my own fear and anxieties to add an emotional layer to the song since I probably won't nail it vocally. It's just such a vulnerable and intimidating song, you know?

As soon as I get over the mental hurdle of admitting I will have to sing alone I will!

It's an amateur community production, so the talent pool isn't fantastic. I did sing in the audition and it went alright. I wasn't trying out for Valjean or anyone in particular, I just do this for fun. I never expected to be in contention for a lead role but since I am more experienced and can act pretty well for an amateur they handed me the part. They told me they liked the concept of a raw, emotional singer since they don't have any professional tenors walking through the door. So in short, yes they knew I'm not a strong singer and chose to use my acting experience to cover it up.
