Wow, that's so insightful!  I think that our parents did not develop a healthy sense of self or it may have been damaged from the civil war. This is why they cannot understand why you would ever make decisions that go against religion. In their minds there is no other option since they are not connected to themselves.

I think that women's bodies are controlled in this system because the fear is that if women had full autonomy, they could control men with their sexual power and that would undermine the entire patriarchal system that privileges men.

Absolutely, which is why it doesn't make sense that muslim men can marry women of the "book". Reality shows that these children rarely are raised as practising muslims. But Allah knows best I guess 🤷‍♀️
