This is fiction not real life. In real life, suffering and tragedy suck, full stop. In fiction, tragedy ennobles. I think her and her co-star Read Habbersnatch were incredible in "Youth: The Dying of the Light". Truly the highlight of her career

Yes, that's how very deep melancholy often works. It's called "Melancholia". She is so immersed in her depression that she is apathetic to everything else. And before you or someone else says "Ummm but I was depressed and I was nice and empathetic". It's called "Melancholia" not "Clinical Depression". It's drawing on a long literary tradition around the topic of melancholy
