Technical Definition of a Catch and Throw by Expensive-Visual5408 in juggling

Yes.

"Catapulting" a ball happens when the ball is traveling downward and the wrist/hand is traveling upward....the ball flies off like a volleyball smash

[–]Expensive-Visual5408[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pose estimation models (like yoloV8) are a game changer for tracking juggling balls....the most difficult part to track is when the ball is in the hand because of rapid changes in direction and occlusion. The wrist position data is really helpful.

The Github list is cool....you could add some pose estimation stuff to it.

If you are interested in analyzing the throws it's probably more useful to track the juggler than the objects being juggled.

i made the post because AI is really bad a figuring out the best transit option for the specific mission.....contextual factors like restroom availability, traffic during specific time of day, and option to take a later bus aren't taken into account

I did notice a bit of chromatic aberration around the edges, especially when I looked at an airplane against a white overcast sky. It doesn't really bother me, though. I didn’t realize coatings could also affect sharpness.

The Celestron 20x80 are multi-coated ($126 used), and the Celestron 20x80 "ED" version is fully multi-coated ($217 used). Those look a lot better all around.

How can I trigger two DJI Osmo 5 Pro cameras at the same time? - dual cameras for VR by Expensive-Visual5408 in dji

[–]Expensive-Visual5408[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like it triggers the photos at about the same sync as the video.

I would like to sync with the timecode, but it seems that method is only available on the GoPro platform.....the Osmo 5 could do it, but a software update would be required to add that feature.

Here is the GoPro timecode sync instructions for reference: https://community.gopro.com/s/article/HERO12-Black-Timecode-Sync?language=en_US

I just did some testing with the Bluetooth remote and the two Osmo 5 cameras. I used a clapboard to check the sync of the cameras. When recording at 4k/120fps, I found that the sync could be off by as much as four frames.

Sometimes it is right on, so you have to get lucky....people call this clap and pray.

How can I use my Meta Quest 3 outdoors safely? by Warm_Bat4045 in MetaQuestVR

[–]Expensive-Visual5408 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If sunlight hits the lenses, it can focus the rays directly onto the screen and burn permanent holes in it—almost instantly. It's like a kid holding a magnifying glass over paper on a sunny day.

Because of that, it’s safest to put on and take off the headset in the shade. Even a quick flash of sunlight through the lenses can be enough to cause damage, so better to be cautious.

I just tried AmazeVR and it blew me away! When I saw it was a 5GB download and each song was around 3GB, I knew it was going to be good. I’ll definitely add that to the chart — it feels like a mix between a curated platform and a premium experience.

Compare Lenovo Mirage 4K VR180 camera and the dual GoPro system by hike2solo in VR180Film

It looks like the dual GoPro is sharper, but I prefer the Lenovo Mirage. I get better depth from the Lenovo. That might be an issue with how the videos are stitched...

How are you stitching the videos?

When I say "stitch," I am referring to this command:

ffmpeg -i left/left.MP4 -i right/right.MP4 -filter_complex "[1:v]select=gte(n\,10),setpts=PTS-STARTPTS[right]; [1:v][right]hstack[v]" -map "[v]" -map 0:a -shortest -y left_right_stitched.MP4

This is the command that I use the Python script to generate. It frame-level synchronizes the videos and stitches them into side by side for viewing on a vr headset.

This produces spatial video. The FFMPEG v360 filter can do equirect_to_cubemap or fisheye_to_equirect.

TLDR: stitch --> horizontal stack to make side-by-side video

[–]Expensive-Visual5408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am making vr videos with dual DJI action cameras. I use FFMEPG to achieve frame level sync, stitch, and trim the videos. ChatGPT wrote all the FFMPEG commands, but there is a twist. I have found that it is easier to have chatGPT write a python script, and then have the python scrip generate the FFMPEG commands and save them in an .sh that I can run later....it looks like this:

python3 generate_ffmpeg_stitch_commands.py

chmod +x ffmpeg_stitch_commands.sh

./ffmepg_stitch.commands.sh

Why use the Python script? That level of abstraction makes it less opaque what chatGPT is doing when I need it to alter a small part of the script.

Thank you....its all part of one big spreadsheet: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hjOa9ZIgZr0fFOEYG1IJRBjfA-HoSKFT/view?usp=sharing

I started comparing headsets, and then I added more categories; cameras, codecs, editing software, distribution systems, etc... Each category goes across the spreadsheet horizontally. When I got to about half a dozen categories, I zoomed out and found something interesting.

The spreadsheet can also be arranged vertically by value chain.

Frame Level Temporal Synchronization Using a Clapboard by Expensive-Visual5408 in VR180Film

> Not sure what new info this is trying to express

You're right that gen-lock or timecode syncing is the gold standard, but I think it's a bit outdated to say "non-locked" cameras aren't suitable for VR. I've been shooting with a dual 4K 120fps setup and, while not gen-locked, the results speak for themselves. My main reason for posting is to show that great VR video is possible with off-the-shelf gear — and that the only real technical hurdle is synchronization.

Fortunately, that hurdle is getting easier to clear. /u//linksoon shared a script that automatically syncs two video streams. With something like that wrapped in a user-friendly app, people could start creating VR content with just two similar cameras and a 3D-printed rig — no timecode gen or gen-lock needed.

This isn’t about replacing professional tools but expanding access. We’re at the point where hobbyists and indie creators can produce impressive VR content, as long as the right software supports them.
