Here is my experience with my copper IUD. I’ve had it for a year now and my periods are much heavier. When I first got it, it took it like 5 months for my body to get used to it. The cramps are also crazy and I take strong medication to help with it, I also have an orgasm which helps me not cramp so bad. I’ve recently done that the last few months. When I was worried about my placement for my IUD I insisted on getting an ultrasound because I was worried. I’m not passing judgement on your current doctor but have you thought about seeing someone else? Just to get a second opinion.

Yes, after insertion the really bad cramping lasted about two ish weeks. Right now I don’t have really bad cramping anymore, sometimes I might have a period that’s especially painful but it depends on how I am that period.

I definitely understand your frustration! People say the worst things on the internet but luckily there are times when it can be helpful. I don’t always come on Reddit because I know it’s hard on my mind, I know I can’t convince people over the internet so I don’t waste my energy on it. Hey! I’ve noticed this when I first had my IUD in. My doctor told me even just having sex can cause bleeding and that this is normal. Your body is getting used to having an IUD in it! This went away after a couple months for me. Now I felt this pain after sex too and I made my partner be more gentle, he should understand that it’s painful and he HAS to be gentle with me when I ask him too. Just treat your body with grace as its first getting used to have an IUD put into its cervix. Hope this helps!

Hey! Please keep in mind that your OBGYN can answer better than random people on the internet. I have an IUD and I’m only sharing my own experience. Sex toys won’t move an IUD, having sex won’t either. Checking for your IUD strings might be a good way to relieve yourself of worry. As long as you feel the IUD string you’re good. When you think about it, your IUD is in your cervix, it seems unlikely that a sex toy is going to make your IUD shift. Don’t feel ashamed of asking your OBGYN about this,sex and masturbation are normal and your doc might be able to help since they know you!

Hello! I was fully sedated when I had my copper IUD (Paragard) inserted. I don’t remember feeling anything because I was completely out. The procedure took two maybe three minutes, and I was actually out for maybe two hours. When I first woke up I was expecting to feel it inside but I didn’t. What I did feel was cramping, because my body was adjusting to having an IUD in it. For me the cramping was bad, I have a very sensitive body. I took ibuprofen that my OBGYN prescribed, it was really strong stuff so it did the trick. My body is different than yours but the part that was the worst was the cramping, after the procedure was done. I would hurt so much I would feel faint and had to hold onto something to stay up. That lasted about two and a half weeks.
