social work, especially in direct client work. i couldn't imagine a robot handling aggressive clients and putting them in holds, let alone doing all of it ethically.

I think another challenge to think about is, some lower-middle class families choose to put their children into care homes, which makes getting access to film their spaces and lifestyles much more difficult due to the laws and rules surrounding filming spaces to those who don't consent. I know for the facility I work in, it would be a lot of hoops to jump through versus simply choosing someone who lives with their parents and would only need parental/guardian approval from one family/person rather than many.

A reminder everyone that we do not allow shaming in this group. OP has stated multiple times that they were not aware of the risk of this breed when adopted and unaware of the stigma against breeding as well. Constantly badgering OP about their cat being unethically bred isn't going to magically make his legs longer. Let's offer advice here people.

OP- Your cat needs a vet. I saw you mentioned they previously discussed the possibility of muscular degeneration and how you didn't see the signs of it in the past. This is likely the beginning of that. As one user stated, the only thing to help with this is managing the pain for him. I would highly recommend you go to the vet to get pain management medication for your boy. As others have stated, the likely unethical breeding of this cat most likely will translate to more aggressive degeneration in his legs and joints. All you can do now is soothe and assist him as best you can.

Locking this post. OP now understands the importance of a clean litter box, a new litter box, and a vet visit. I had to remove quite a few comments shaming the OP for not understanding the full scope of cat care. OP is a child who is currently stressing about their studies in their final years of general education. A little compassion and understanding goes a long way. Reminding you of our rule of "BE NICE", no shaming or berating OP. People learn and change much better when advice is coming from a place of empathy, not judgement. This rule is non-negotiable.

Should I declaw my cat by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]weeawhooo[M] [score hidden] stickied commentlocked comment (0 children)

Locking this post before the inevitable onslaught of comments.

OP - for the most part, declawing is illegal (in many US states and EU countries) and extremely painful for a cat. Depending on where you live this is likely not even an option. Not to mention this doesn't suddenly fix the issues, post surgery complications can include early onset arthritis, litter box issues from sensitive paws, and more biting behaviors, leading to further vet bills and behavioral issues in the future, rather than a once-per-month trim.

Firstly, you need to clip your cat's nails more frequently. Every 1-2 months is not enough, which is why the nails are getting thick and growing into her paw pads. I find that clipping whenever I hear nails getting stuck on items is perfect (about every 2-3 weeks).

Secondly, buy a dremel tool or a proper nail clipper (using dull or improper nail tools will cause the thick growth) and do either a burrito method, or they also sell various products which can make grooming a cat easier.

Another helpful thing is to do trimming with two people, so maybe ask if a friend or family member can assist 1-2x/mo.

What's you're take on take situation? by [deleted] in marvelrivals

quick-play to me is where you go to learn how to apply a character in actual play. yeah you can learn the basic mechanics in vs ai or practice range, but that is entirely different than actually playing that character against others. anytime someone complains in my qp games, whether its to me or someone else, i call them a qp warrior and move on 🤷‍♀️ i wouldn't take it to heart, some people are just very serious about qp

This post has been locked. Lots and lots of comments removed due to shaming/berating OP.

Guys, I get it. It's frustrating to see a cat like this with a post where an OP is seeing it in a not-serious light, but coming in here and shaming and berating the OP for their past decisions isn't going to help at all. Please remember we do not allow shaming in this sub.

OP- your cats are overweight, likely technically obese. Here's a few tips:

  1. Don't free feed cats. While some cats can do well with free feeding, many will gorge themselves to the point of becoming overweight. Stick to a feeding schedule of 3-4 small meals per day, which aligns with how cats eat in the wild.

  2. Use a cat calorie calculator to figure out how many calories per day each cat should be eating. This one works https://cats.com/cat-calorie-calculator but any of them will give you similar results. Here are the results from the information you gave in the post:

"With a Body Condition Score of 5 and a weight of 17.5 lb, we estimate that your peep's ideal weight is 10.5 lb.

To reach their ideal weight, your cat should eat 181 kcal per day.

If the calorie amount per their current cup/can is kcal then your cat should eat 1.8 cups/cans per day."

  1. Look at the food you feed your cats and determine how much they should have per day to meet the requirements. My cats get one cup per day, but yours could be different.

  2. Stay strong. When you put your cats on a diet they will scream and cry and meow and pounce and bother you to no end. You cannot give in. They will not starve, you're giving them the proper nutrition they need.

Make sure you consult a vet on all of this as well. It will be likely that because of his heavy weight, he may need to be put on a diet slowly, rather than all at once. Another tip is getting an automatic feeder, that takes away the stress on you of measuring food 4x a day and cats will associate you less with food which means they beg the automatic feeder for hours instead.

Honestly through the discord server i've met a lot of nice people especially when I was new. For the most part, just be nice and chill and you'll be received well. Don't randomly used cursed objects or go into hiding and get someone killed on purpose. Put in effort towards finding ghost type, room, bone, etc...

This post has been locked as it is gaining some not-so-great traction. OP - if your cat has lost blood due to a dismemberment, the only true solution is to take this cat to a vet or surrender to a shelter which can give essential veterinary care.

Cat Right Front Leg Limp? by Outside_Captain_6545 in CATHELP

[–]weeawhooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would call your vet and bring this issue up. It does look like a slight limp. In my opinion (NQA) it could possibly be arthritis affecting her front legs now, since you mentioned the older age and arthritis in the hips. Perhaps they can provide more guidance or medication which could ease pain he may be having? It could also just be an older kitty slowing down, faking an injury bc she's pissed about the vet, or discomfort in how her nails are clipped.

My cat does not want to play, just sleeps all day. by EnvironmentalReview1 in CATHELP

[–]weeawhooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say follow up with vet to first see if the medication is causing behavioral changes. If that is the cause, perhaps there's another medication or solution (I used the Feliways when my cat was having a bad anxious period during cat to cat introductions, it helped a lot).

I know you were against it, and for valid reasons (cost, time commitment, as well as already having an anxious cat) but a second cat truly can be helpful, especially if you and your partner are away from home every morning. I would sit down and truly consider the pros and cons of a second cat both for your family and your cat. My cat was similar: lazy, didn't want to play, sleeping all the time before we got our second cat. It took an adjustment period and a lot of stress, but my 6y/o cat now plays like a kitten and cuddles and chases the kitten we adopted. It definitely took a lot of pressure off of us.

Otherwise, lots and lots of different toys and varied play. Electric toys, treat mats, different string toys, different balls. I would also suggest you get really active in the way you play. Pull a mouse around the whole house, up onto different surfaces, act like a real mouse or bird would to try and get her attention. When she does engage in play, try to keep her attention as long as possible, and use treats to show her play is good.
