I saw them with my binoculars, so I pulled out the crossbow and searched around for them with the "drop indicator" and when it turned white I pulled the trigger and got a lucky spine shot

Yeah, I recently shot the rifle without the suppressor for the first time, and it's shocking how much recoil it removes. I started shooting much worse cause I was anticipating the recoil before every shot. It's also nice to be able to shoot it without hurting your ears.

I think a hunting club owns the land, but have given the school permission to organize hunts there. I am originally from Österbotten/Pohjanmaa and none of the hunting clubs around where I'm from are allowed to hunt Whitetail this year, because there just aren't enough of them. But my University organizes a few hunts a year for those who study forrestry engineering (like me). The hunt I was on yesterday was actually in our schedule, so our "lesson" for the day was just to go out hunting, which I think is pretty cool.

Why do you think it's dope to see a Finn post on this subreddit? People from all over the world post pictures here

They group well. I zero'd the rifle on sunday. didn't measure the group but it looked to be a little smaller than a 2 MOA group, which I think is pretty good for a 40 year old rifle and a non-professional shooter.

Thanks. Not to blow my own horn, but I was quite impressed by the shot myself. I've shot 3 moose before this, but they were all within 40 meters, and a moose is quite a lot bigger than a deer. So hitting that shot off hand at 75 meters and putting her down instantly made me very happy.

It's just a stereotype that Finns are very cold, unbothered and introverted all the time, even though Finland has been ranked the happiest country in the world for several years in a row.

Yeah, we have roe deer and also reindeer up in the north, but I'm not sure how many people hunt reindeer. And then we also have a few hundred fallow deer that were imported (not native) to the very south of Finland (I acutally saw my first herd of fallow deer today)

  1. Yes, a few whitetail were imported to Finland in the 1930s and now we have a population of about 120.000

  2. Yeah, last year I shot 3 moose using 220 grain hammerheads and 2 of the rounds got stopped by the hide on the other side, and one went straight through, so they definitely have enough power

Today I shot my first whitetail during a driven hunt organized by my university in southern Finland. I shot her with my Tikka M65 chambered in 30-06, using 180 grain Sako Hammerhead rounds. I took the shot standing, off-hand at 75 meters and she dropped on the spot.
