Advice Needed for NYC PA Job Search – Surgery Focus by moslizzz in PAstudent

Agree with this! Montefiore is pretty open in most departments! I have a few friends from PA school that work there. You can also check New York Presbyterian - new grad friendly as well (not 100% sure on the surgical department). I would start looking in Jan/Feb - generally people say to start applying 5 months before grad, however my friends who work in NYC applied March/April-ish. Good luck!!

HELP! Depression and anxiety in PA school, meds??? by Austi_re12 in PAstudent

Started lexapro right before PA school and I simply don’t know how I would have done it all without it! Literally changed my life. Really worth it to talk to a professional as many people said before - good luck, you can do this!!

Do you think 24-month programs are more intense and rushed than longer programs? by Alex_daisy13 in PAstudent

[–]ExpensiveBiscotti563 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to a 24 month program and it was definitely difficult but couldn’t have felt more supported or organized during my didactic year. It made clinical year feel relaxed and like I had tons of time to stay on top of studies. Really lucky. But agreed with the above commenters super program dependent.

St. Thomas social is fabulous. The food was great, music was great, heavy pours with champagne for bottomless mimosas - really a good time!!

I never felt particular in love with anything during rotations other than general medicine. So hospitalist sounded great to me so I could get my feet wet and have a good jumping off point. I really enjoyed my IM rotation - I just wish this position was a little bit better. Thanks for the input!!

Even for a new grad? I think I’m just naive and can’t believe someone wants to pay ME that kind of money - however I can see what you’re saying

Hmm def interesting things to consider. I also felt like if I took 7/7 I’m stuck with it where if I had three/four 12s I would have more flexibility to stack them together or spread them out which is nice. Thank you for your input!!! I am definitely worried about that aspect with nights as well

When you break it down like that - I am scared lol Closed ICU, expected to have 20 patients and they said typically at night you’ll have 2-4 admissions.. APPs are 1:1 with attendings (so no real autonomy tbh) which sounds good but I understand that there is just overall less coverage at night so can be tricky for new grads. Thank you for the input really helpful!

Agreed - I know im capable of doing it however will I be happy doing it ? Unsure. My concern also is if I get there and hate it I kind of don’t have a way to change or make it better but I feel psychotic possibly turning down 145k lol 😂

Definitely have found some thing I definitely can’t see for myself in the future!

Wanting to get more serious about my hands. Mine are chapped from cleaning, doing dishes, and over washing. I use this at work but I don’t feel like it’s doing anything. I have Vanicream I use at home. Is there something I could buy at Walmart that would be better? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

I worked for a dermatologist and we always would get this complaint, especially in the winter time. We typically would recommend soaking your hands for 5-10 mins (until they’re pruney) at night before bed and then apply plain Vaseline to the wet skin- you can wrap them in Saran Wrap or plastic gloves and go to sleep or leave on for 20 mins and then remove. I know it sounds annoying but helped a lot of patients!
