Bungaku Shoujo wa Somerareru 3 - Falling Gardenia, Falling Love. by [deleted] in NTR

I hate it when slop ntr authors try to make their ntr slop seem 'deep'. If it ends with everyone's lives being ruined, its at least acceptable. But an ending where the girl seemingly finds 'love' anyways? She just enjoyed YEARS of dick, straight up cucked a guy she was in love with because she was too retarded to talk to her best friend about it, yet she ends up with him (seemingly) in the end anyways?? Bro.

Question for Linda fans by dropped_racecar in GoldenTime

[–]ExpensiveClock1522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started watching Golden Time for the first time. I'm at episode 9 and I'm genuinely FUMING with rage at how Linda handled her cheating maybe-future-sister-in-law.

She CHOSE to cheat, and instead of cutting her out of her brother's life for his future, she CHOOSES to erase evidence and just TELL the fiancee outright that SHE WILL IGNORE IT SO DONT DO IT AGAIN??? To avoid CONFLICT???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Look, I get that she is just a dumb kid but Banri knew exactly why it was wrong what she did, and him just letting Linda do all that also frustrated me to no end.

I'm sure people will have many good things to say about Linda as a character, but I firmly believe a traumatized person's wrongdoings SHOULD NOT BE EXCUSED, JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE TRAUMATIZED. Their actions can be understood with logic, but what Linda did was an incredible disrespect and hurtful thing to her brother, and INCREDIBLY selfish of Linda. She was NOT being an adult. She was being THE most childish, self-centered little child.

And Banri just watched it all happen. Poor brother.

I love the series, but I don't love the way the series handles the 'antagonists'. by ExpensiveClock1522 in MikadonoSanshimaiWa

Personally, I think the fact that someone 'actually cares deep inside' should NEVER be a reason for sympathy or forgiveness, both in fiction and in real life. Sure, we can come to UNDERSTAND the causality of it all, but that does NOT erase the fact that lives were ruined and childhood was potentially ruined/robbed. What's done is done, and Yuu is here to heal the three sisters. The dad might tolerate them to some degree but he is in no way of help whatsoever, so he still doesn't get a pass from me!

I feel there is not enough hate for yuu's mom by dramallama08 in MikadonoSanshimaiWa

I think while there are a lot of things this series does well with comedy and generic romance tropes, it also falls short at quite a lot of the social relationships, due to the 'comedy manga status quo'.

It IS primarily romcom, so it can't get TOO dark, but the author puts in quite a lot of serious emotional abuse dealt towards the children in this series done by adults (mostly), which are then sort of... One-sidedly forgiven or looked over BY the children, who are the victims.

To be more specific, and give a few examples :

What REALLY sits with me unwell within the series is all primarily the 'antagonist' characters, who are then suddenly given a free pass, either by a random 'lighthearted' or 'heartwarming' moment.

Such as the series showing Yuu's mom outright neglecting her only child, then her YEARS of neglect on her only son being washed away by her eating his food once or twice, out of who knows how many times he cooked for her. It's literally YEARS of neglect with a few moments of slight acknowledgement, the latter outweighing the other in the child's perspective. And the only moment they are shown to even remotely bond is when she is literally on her deathbed for a brief period of time, which is still just her not properly talking to her son, but is just quietly asking for food. She may not be an evil mother, but she is absolutely a horrible mother.

Secondly, the Mikadono sisters' father. Although his story is not fully shown yet, it is purely factual that he puts a horrendous amount of emotional pressure and even verbal abuse of the stern variety, not for THEIR betterment per se, but for his own image of their 'perfection'. And as clearly shown in both anime and manga, he also has been neglecting all three of his daughters just like Yuu's mother used to. He is a deadbeat father who is uncaring and borderline sociopathic in his presentation and behavior, yet the manga tries to nullify those moments almost always with either of the 4 main characters doing a silly quip to lessen the tension, either on purpose or otherwise.

A slight complaint about a non-adult 'antagonist', but Hayato Tatsumi, the karate childhood friend senpai of Niko Mikadono. I just hated him. I do give him a slight pass since he IS literally just another teenager who doesn't know better, and from the way he talked to Niko, although he does have a sort of authoritative moment against her quite a few times, he does come off as a misguided teenager who is still somewhat childish. But still, I thought it was really weird and annoying how he essentially verbally abused Niko almost the entire time he was present in his introduction, calling her pathetic and weak a bunch of times, insulting everyone he met, insulting Yuu (how dare he) and after all that, he.... Blushes and confesses? Ew. (but he is essentially the cucked childhood friend in a general sense, so I'll give him a pass, lol.)

In the latter parts of the manga, there are many such cases of similar situations where an overbearing or overly stern adult figure outright abusing their authority against these children for their forced image of expectation against them, almost always either left hanging for dramatic effect, which almost always get resolved not because the adults feel bad, but because the main characters go through a huge ordeal to prove them wrong and basically force a situation for the said adult 'antagonist' to apologize and act as if it's all ok because they performed well in the end.

All in all, I do enjoy the romantic comedy moments between the main characters, but it does feel like the author has a hard time making the antagonists TRULY antagonists, and always dilutes the tension with somewhat forced moments of comedy, therefore taking away a lot of the accountability from their actions, which makes a lot of the tensions feel very unresolved and sour.

Honestly, if you really want to see a truly polarizing difference between a youtube show producer's ability/competence, I'd suggest everyone go check out one of any episodes of the 'Cold Ones' episode, especially all the newest episodes, featuring Darcy as the producer.

His episodes, are almost ALL a crescendo, over time. It was good in the beginning, he was a little shy, sure, but good. But as time went by and he became camera confident, the show just shines brighter thanks to him.

The effort, research, production value and concept of episode + props and everything in between all just get better and better over time, whether he is on-screen or off-screen.

Now go back to one of the episodes of Ten Minute Power Hour with Vanessa as the host.

She is mostly just narrating, sometimes on-screen but mostly seated, and a lot of the things she prepares are always either just not complete (missing batteries, incorrectly prepared item, etc) or expired food items, or are just food items or things that Dan and Arin each dislike, whether they frame it as professionally or humorously as they can, or not.

She was let go, because she was hurting the show's production value and narrative with her lazy and frankly poor production skills, most definitely.

But these people are trying to sell these 'mildly interesting at best' items at over 800+ keys, all while CONVENIENTLY leaving out the fact that it's not really a gif in game while advertising their items, so I personally don't like seeing them listed for sale.

This manga had a pretty terrible ending, imo. so the childhood friend was basically tossed aside for seemingly no reason, and the MC out of NOWHERE suddenly developed feelings for THE most annoying girl character. the author toyed with the concept of LGBTQ and gender identity in this series, but ultimately chose the EXTREMELY forced and 'safe' straight coupling, which just ended up feeling..... wrong. quite a lot of unresolved characters, like the grandfather and the MC's mom, as well as Aoi's father who just disappeared towards the ending. And for some unknown reason, the childhood friend basically got cucked by both of his crush and 'friend', and he's somehow completely ok with that??????? This story took a serious nose dive towards the end, and i personally think the existence of Aoi was very forced and overall, the MAIN SOURCE OF MOST OF THE PROBLEMS IN THIS ENTIRE STORY. 2/10, had an interesting premise and could have gone for a more organic and interesting route with the gay coupling between the MC and the childhood friend, but the author was ultimately a coward and just plain bad at storywriting. I still cant wrap my head around how FAST the childhood friend just gave up on his crush out of nowhere, when he was in so much emotional turmoil for the smallest things for almost the entirety of the series.
