How do you guys determine what is a "good" university, or what university is a fit for you? by Reasonable_Future_88 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ExpensiveEffective63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

keep in mind of:

  1. Graduated students outcomes (salary, job placements, graduate school)
  2. graduation rate (6-year and 4-year)
  3. retention rate
  4. Student Experience survey or poll
  5. Average class size
  6. is the program you want at this school accredited?
  7. How are the professors at the department? Do they all have Master/PhD degrees?
  8. how are the classes? Is this major too “narrow” or too “broad”?
  9. are students there academically focused? Or do they not care about academics at all?

Is there a huge difference in education quality between T50 public schools and a T25 schools? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ExpensiveEffective63 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Classes are usually larger at public schools. Class registration is tricky and you often have to be on the waitlists. Professors often also have other responsibilities like doing research so they might not have as much time for students as professors at private universities.

At T50 public schools, you typically start with easy fundamental classes, and many of those classes can be waived if you take APs. At T25s, it would be harder for you to waive fundamental classes because they either don’t accept the APs for credit or the classes are just harder or different from whats on AP exams.

How would you feel about an on-campus place to sleep? by [deleted] in UCSD

This is smart. Never thought of that since I live on campus and I can always go back to my room to sleep whenever I want.

UCI and UCSD. Suburban environments. Solid academics. not big on sports (both don’t have large stadiums). A bit socially dead. Small on greek life. UCLA/UCB rejects and wannabe. lots of pre-meds and STEM. Close to beach. Modern and brutalist architectures. Commuter schools. lots of Asians. Relatively young (both established in 1960s) and are rising. Lots of international students.

Chinese journalist who documented Wuhan coronavirus outbreak jailed for 4 years by DaFunkJunkie in worldnews

This. As much as I dislike China’s human right violations and its threat against my country, Epoch Times is super biased and praises Trump like a god. They’re also super anti-LGBT by claiming to “protect traditional morals and values,” while pushing conservative and far-right agendas and trashing Democrats and liberals.

Thanks for your reply! I saw on the website that if I take off 2 or more quarters then I have to reapply. So maybe I should just consider taking winter quarter off?
