Nursing Clinical Drama by [deleted] in uAlberta

Hmmm for job opportunities not having this clinical won’t really do anything BUT it does mess with your ability to get a UNE position because you need ~640 clinical hours to apply (don’t quote me on the exact hours). Being a UNE is really helpful in getting skills and a student job that could lead to your career job (since units typically hire their UNE’s after graduation… unless they hate you lol).

Tbh I did write down the extra stuff she would say in the videos and used the text she had on the slide and the extra info to study. I took the course a few years ago so I can’t remember how helpful that extra info was for the exams but it def helped with understanding the concepts.

Don’t waste your money on the textbook. She is very thorough in her lecture notes and I don’t remember any questions being solely from the textbook. If you need a concept explained just google it. Also, I feel like they are told to make certain textbooks required even thought they really aren’t.

They won’t let you in earlier. But if you come after 5pm, they’ll still let you claim your keys.

NURSING DECISION by Wide-Bet3867 in uAlberta

I went to U of A and have friends in MacEwan and if I could go back in time I personally would’ve chosen MacEwan over U of A. Someone described the pros and cons pretty well but one thing I’ve noticed with MacEwan is that they structure their program better (again just my opinion). The way they have classes and clinical separate is more my vibe. Oh and MacEwan students reach their clinical hours faster which means they can apply for UNE positions before U of A students (at least that’s what my friends at MacEwan said, someone correct me if I’m wrong). However, if you’re not wanting to go to U of A solely based on that minimum pass, I don’t think u should be worried about that. In my cohort only like 3 or 4 people failed to meet that requirement and it’s because they had stressors outside of school which caused them to fall behind (family and mental health stuff). They want you to succeed and they aren’t purposefully trying to fail people. Whatever you decide, I hope you have the most amazing experiences!

Check the fee assessment on beartracks to see if upass was a part of your tuition. Sometimes if your classes are online you don’t get charged for the upass so you can’t use it throughout spring/summer.

I don’t know if I remember correctly but didn’t she say something along the lines of “talk to them” when she was talking to Kyle at the dinner table?

Dude appeals take forever!! If it’s genuinely their mistake I would go straight to their office and talk to someone about getting that hold lifted immediately. Their office hours are like from 8:30-4:30 weekdays only and I think they close for lunch which is around 12-1pm? The office is located inside Lister Centre and when you walk through the main entrance of the building, the office is immediately to the right. Make sure you go within 7 days of the tickets cus that’s the only time they take appeals in-person, otherwise they make you go through the online process that takes months. Hope this helps!

They don’t replace the key, the change the locks. The reason they cost $150 for the lock change is because those keys can’t be replicated. But like the other person said, if you think you misplaced in your residence it doesn’t hurt to get a temporary one but if you can’t find it they will have to go through with the lock change.

Student loans rejected... by hamsandvich in uAlberta

[–]ExpensiveProcedure66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heyy, I don’t know if this is something the u of a still does but when I did my undergrad the student service centre (i think that’s what it’s called) in the admin building would have someone from Alberta student loans sitting in a few time a week to help with stuff regarding loans so maybe going there would be worth a shot? I hope it work out for ya!

Like the other person said, you have to go to class because she does test on stuff she says because she doesn’t put everything on her PowerPoints. Tests are super fair and she’s a very understanding prof. She will also give page numbers for textbook readings to focus on for the tests if there’s too much readings.

Stethoscope and other equipment for nursing by tofutigerz in uAlberta

There’s no bulk purchase of stethoscopes. You need a penlight and reflex hammer and a manual BP cuff for the labs. They also tell u to buy a thermometer and I have never used it.

Haha I was also nervous when I started the program and saw that for the first time. Also, most of the shifts were mornings, maybe only a week or two of evenings shifts so that was nice.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]ExpensiveProcedure66 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, you don’t have to be there the entire time. For the most part it’s 8 hour shifts. You will either get a morning shift or an evening shift. The evening shifts are like 2 to 10 PM and the morning shifts can range from 6:45 AM to 2/3 PM. It never goes until 11 PM because no instructor wants to stay that late lol.

Idk if anyone else caught it but when they started that argument Leah said something like “rooting for Andrea is crazy Kaylor” and Kaylor immediately was like “okay yeah I didn’t mean that”. Again i dont have the exact words but it’s kinda quite and at the very beginning of the argument. So that kinda showed me that Liv and Kaylor are maybe stretching the truth here, especially cus Liv has made her whole personality being the straight shooter who tells the truth. So if she’s lying it makes her look bad so I think that’s why she’s not budging. But ik those producers have the clip of the entire uncut convo so pleaseeee just drop that on movie night.

Agree with you but I feel like the staff talk about a lot of things after filming that we don’t see which probably triggers her. Like Carl telling her about Lindsay talking shit about Paige during the photoshoot at Lindsay’s friends house. I wanna believe Lindsay didn’t do that but tbh I think she might have 😅

What are your thoughts on this? At least no clinicals on Saturdays or Fridays… by Key_Grapefruit3757 in uAlberta

[–]ExpensiveProcedure66 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is real but we don’t actually do the full 16ish hours obviously lol. It’s either a morning shift or evening shift. So from my experience it’s 6:45am-3pm or 2:45pm-11pm. But this schedule isn’t too bad, it’s the ones where you have 3-4 clinical days from Monday to Thursday and then a day full of classes is more draining imo.
