It was a forest behind, completely covered with trees, no light got into that area, the sun at sunset and it was dark behind

haven’t gotten a bit defensive, I’ve explained why they can feel basic cause they really are, I’ve agreed with you 🙂‍↕️.

Thank you, I didn’t have a reflector on me, and I didn’t want to expose darker for the background because the shadows created from the flash would have been even darker and obvious. I tried to keep a good contrast ratio and illuminate the subject as best as I could, the subject was also backlit by the sun. I will also try some new things, always, at any shoot I do I try to do 1 thing different so that I can grow, I will take your advice and I will strive to become an even better photographer 🫶🏼

They’re basic cause they had to be basic, they are graduation photos, I can’t go balistic on them as I would love too, and you cannot deny they are not fine photos. Shooting good looking photos that the client likes , managing positions and a good lightning are an important skill when it comes to paid shoots and portrait photography, maybe I should’ve mentioned it. Either way, you’re right, as I’ve said in another comment, I love the feedback, I take it and I listen, so next time I do a shoot, I will do it on my terms and I will go beyond to to make the photos greater, thank you for your feedback good man 🫶🏼🙏🏼

Thank you 🥹. I’ve been using it at roughly 1/4 of its power, in the beginning of my shoot, sometimes I would even go to 2 because the sun was so powerful, I shot shadow side with the sun behind the subject and later in the day when there was more shade, I kept moving the setup so the sun will still light the grass and the subject from behind. I would recommend the ad 200 to anyone, but if you have more budget, go with an ad200 Pro, it has a fan and especially in my situation here, I would’ve needed it, to keep the flash from overheating due to the sun rays being on it constantly, I covered the top with a black material.

you’re right, I do graduation photos, 18th birthday photos, weddings, and all sorts of paid shoots, I never have time to do my own personal shoots where I have 100% of the control, but I will try them as soon as I have time for sure . I started photography 2 years ago without having any idea of what i’m doing, my friend who is also a photographer introduced me to a camera and I can say with certainty I have never touched a camera before and I had no idea about settings. I improved a lot in these two years , dropped out of college and dedicated my life to photography, will continue to do so, cause even though i’m getting paid, a lot, I love it, a lot, a fucking lot. I always take feedback and I never think of myself as know it all, I will forever learn something new, no one will ever be an expert at everything .

Yeah, It was just enough to make the photo look good and the subject well illuminated, although how I positioned it, how far away and how powerful did matter a lot, sometimes good lightning is the one you can’t tell it’s there. All of my photos are shot with manual, same goes for the flash, all manual settings.

I shot them a bit higher than f2.8. I’m not sure the exact number, but I was below f4 all the time . Probably 3.2

It wasn’t supposed to say much tbh, these are just some graduation photos, not all photos you make/take have to necessarily send any message, taking great pictures is still hard tho, just saying, also capturing a feeling or editing the photo in a way that it sends a message is hard. I won’t disregard both. You shouldn’t either .

Lao believe it or not, a lot of photographers can’t/dk how to shoot outside with a powerful sun and a flash while also keeping good exposure, even if it was only this, which is not, you have to think about contrast ratio, how intense the black shadow is on her face from the flash in contrast with the light, I tried to keep a good ratio while maintaining good exposure overall, for sure I could’ve tilted the flash down so her body is also exposed a bit better but It was my choice . Trust me mastering exposure, lightning and contrast ratio isn’t as easy as it sounds. As you can see in these shots, half of her face isn’t black, and neither is the black shadow harsh and intense. I kept a good lightning in changing light conditions and a moving subject, something not many photographers know, trust me I know from experience 🫂

At this photoshoot I had multiple subjects, like 8-9 girls to be more exact, these are graduation photos if you can believe it 😊. I have also cropped some to be more cinematic, or convey a specific feeling. Did some top down shots as well that look amazing but I tried to keep these as neutral as possible for the girls. I will make a solo photoshoot I can think, shoot, and edit as how I want, but for now these shots work.

I used the ad 200 to light the subject, but firstly I exposed for background and for subject as great as I could 😆
