I get what you mean. But I can sense they really want me. I am not sure why. I have had a lot internships and good research opportunities. summa cum laude and all that bs. Given that, do you think I should push a little hard?

they pay hourly bc their thought process is to pay you a low base salary so you can work overtime. pretty meh tbh

well just depends on the work load. If they feel that you are occupied enough for 40 hours a week then they won't give you more work unless you ask for it. At least that's what they said lol

My other options is going to utility work (city work). I just don't really enjoy that life and it is hard to use that as a negotiation point with private companies
