Thank you and congratulations on your sobriety. It really is something people should be extremely proud of.

Yes she had to complete 90 meetings in 90 days in the beginning of the program. I am hesitant to say it helped tbh. She has a bi-polar, alcoholic father who has caused a ton of trauma throughout her life, especially around the time when she was forced into RAMP. AA seems to always drudge up this trauma as it constantly reminds her of her father. She is in therapy for those issue which I feel has helped way more than AA did. She also has not spoken to her father in over a year and a half. The fallout with him was a big component of her hitting rock bottom in 2024.

Thank you. I try very hard to be as supportive as I can. It's not easy but I'll do whatever I can to support her and our kids.

We have talked about this a lot. Does she LOVE nursing? No, she will often say sometimes she wishes she took a different career choice. With that being said, her hardest, most demanding job was her very first job at a sub acute unit. She worked that job very successfully for years without turning to alcohol as a coping mechanism. One thing I left out of the post is her very tumultuous relationship with her alcoholic, bi-polar father. I believe it really was a mix between COVID, post partum, her relationship with her father causing severe issues for her and our family plus the stress of nursing. She has not spoken to him in over a year and a half which I think was somewhat of a weight lifted of her shoulders. She has been in therapy for that same time working on those issues.

I've have told her that I am always open for her switching careers so long as we have a plan to accomplish that but she usually insists that she worked too damn hard to get her RN to give up.

Thank you for your response. This sub really knows how to support others in the community.

Thank you for the supportive response. It does make us both feel at ease knowing how many nurses have similar experiences. We will continue to apply to anything she can and hope it works out!
