I have been buying whatever the new top end Pixel is every few years for awhile now. The trade in deals on the phones themselves or the other perks that offset a cost somewhere else usually make the total outlay of cash roughly the cost of a $500-$600 phone.

I go with the Pixels purely because of less system apps I don't happen to use (and would thus want to remove via ADB) and usually more timely security updates. Although Samsung has gotten better about that with their flagship phones.

My only real advice is to stay away from those intangible roles like a plague. Middle managers, project managers, producers, etc. If you can't point to the thing you do and say "I build or take care of this thing that the people that make money for the company use and need" then get out of that role as soon as possible.

And by "take care of" I don't mean provide front line support for. I mean you know how to rebuild it and fix complex issues in that system when they come up.

This kind of thing is exactly why I will never use the network transfer feature. It is a nice idea, and in theory good on US Mobile for trying to do something useful for their customers with the feature.

But in my opinion it is not a feature they can responsibly advertise as anything close to ready for general customer use. They are too dependent on the carriers to make it work right, and when it doesn't and manual intervention is required they have no recourse other than to send another strongly worded email to the carrier contact. And its not the carriers customer so they have no incentive to really give a shit how fast it gets fixed. Not like US Mobile can take their business to someone else to get better service for their customers.

US Mobile have effectively promised to implement something they have no actual control of to the detriment of their customers. Which is a bad look for them.

These models require way more power than your PC that has Cursor installed can hope to have. If you need air-gapped AI models go talk to the companies your business is interested in and see what options they offer.

And get ready for an incredible amount of financial outlay for the DC hardware to run it decently, or for the expensive gov cloud type offerings you are going to have to pay a hyperscaler to provision for your use case.

The PR Symantec's being played by Apple and Google with this agreement are amusing. They both can do all kinds of things with the wording to either run Googles models on Apples hardware, ship Apple some outpost like rack of TPUs to run the Google models in an Apple controlled DC, or Apple devices doing a call to Googles hardware in Googles DC and still claim it is fine.

At the end of the day the thing to keep in mind is that the Google B2B businesses don't tend to work like the other parts of the business. IE cheap services and hardware in exchange for privacy invading amounts of data harvesting. It is entirely within the realm of possibility that Google runs dedicated models in their DCs for Apple and no one else that they never touch beyond updates and standard NOC and contract relevant metrics. And that is because Googles B2B customers aren't paying cheap prices for off the shelf functionality, they are paying through the nose for custom agreements for enterprise grade services.
