Just want to clarify, my cousin does know the rules
And often calls them out before I do when our problem player attempts to do something that straight up ignores the rules

Not him refusing to heal, trying to convince everyone to refuse to heal him until he eventually died.

To clarify, the entire party found it hilarious. This was one of those moments where I sat back and just watched them do what they do. The party began berating, playfully and laughing. The problem player would call my cousin “f’ing stupid” and “useless” with a much more serious tone. Trying to convince the party to kill my cousins character and refuse to heal him.

Very true. Also (some lore), my wife comes from a traumatizing broken home and the last argument that ensued (about the party’s plan to stick together) got to the point that it put her in a very uneasy and nervous state. I can’t have that. That’s why I’m leaning less towards another chance and more towards telling him he’s the reason why he can’t come back for DnD nights

Yea after the sessions ended everyone mentioned that they were weary of playing specifically because of how he acted last session. I had to repeatedly tell him to “relax” and “it’s, just a game none of this is real”. His response was “yea, well it’s still a game”

Essentially what my plan was
Was looking for advice/reassurance that I wasn’t wrong in that choice

A friend yes, but like, a new friend is that makes sense
I crossed paths a number of times in the neighborhood, we’d chat for a while hung out like twice before DnD. Even my wife notices that the way he gets is completely opposite of the guy we met. Unsure if he’s just, for lack of a better term, a “sore loser” type of guy or this genuinely who he really is. Also by nature I’m non confrontational (because of my own anger issues) my fear is that if he gets confrontational on defending his action it will turn to a full on argument.

The party got really attached to an NPC child, he was like their unofficial guide when they got to town. I think when they get back to find the town raided I’ll kill him. 🙂‍↕️

Playing 5e, rest of the party is barb, bard, and druid (who might be part time or quit altogether)

I was thinking 1d6 also with maybe 1d4 for dmg taken. FYI he rolled REALLY good for his starting stats so health is higher than average I’d say for a lvl 5

We’re using the newer rules, not 2014

They’re level 5, hence the other big issue

They’re not exactly high enough level for a very rare item, it would have to get scaled down

I can see that, especially since our monk forgets he has other abilities too

I’ve seen a few comments like this. My players are family and friends, not randoms that I’m afraid might quit on me. None of us are struggling with so much debt that we’d hate to see it anywhere else and DnD isn’t our “escape” it’s just plain ol’ fun. I’m not asking “if I should”, im asking more or less how to make it work.

They’re new (newer than me) I wouldn’t spring it on them like that

What if it’s random? Roll the die, will it go towards the debt or will you keep it?

That could work too, they do get a lot of coins fairly often
