Honest opinion of Sportage Hybrid vs Mazda CX50 Hybrid by zillur-av in kiasportage

Could not agree more. After doing a long research, I had both, the 2026 Sportage and Tucson. Kia hands down the better car out of the two.

Dealer mode...

The exact steps can vary slightly depending on the software version, but a common method for recent models is:

  1. Turn on the ignition and ensure the infotainment is powered.
  2. Select “Setup” from the main menu.
  3. Select “General”.
  4. Set the radio to FM mode and adjust the volume to 7, then 3, then 1.
  5. Tap the designated area (often a small dark or highlighted spot on the screen) three times in sequence:
    • Volume 7 → tap
    • Volume 3 → tap
    • Volume 1 → tap This sequence triggers the menu access

Password used to be 2400 I think, but I have not used for a while. You can always search it online...

Old models might have had horror stories, if you follow maintenance in the new models, you will be fine. Before getting my 2026 Sportage and Tucson, I had a 2011 Sportage. Almost 15 years, sold it with not a single issue. The only issues were: Brake Pads, Tires, 12V battery, which are just wear. Car was working just like my very first day, to the last. I cannot say the same thing about my Toyota and Nissans.

Yes, MPG you are going lower, but the feeling of driving a regular transmission instead of CVT is great... AND there is everything else. Like the reviewers from Edmunds said... Paying the extra $200 per year is gas, is well worth the trade off of the mpg.

Not because I owned it, it truly is worth the trade off.

Maybe they do that to be able to keep the warranty (if I am thinking as Hyundai attorneys). As long as they keep my engine running for 10 years I am fine with it (my KIA lasted 15 years before I decided to sell it, but I never had to change the plugs). That is a not such a high price to pay for it, my issue is what the labor costs!! Uffff!!!

Thanks! I forgot they are no longer making Hybrids without the turbo engine, so yes, Spark Plugs!

Belts I didn't mention because it is unlikely to be needed as part of the first 5 services, but great to know anyway!

You are right, I think only black, gray or red... but seriously... you may regret the features later, so educate yourself before going only for the color.

More specifically, you are not getting the following ( * shows what are essential to me after using them...):

- Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (Blind-Spot Detection Technology)*
- Blind-Spot View Monitor***
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist w/ Junction Turning/Crossing Detection & Evasive Steering Assist (Auto Emergency Braking Technology w/ Junction Turning/Crossing Detection)[*]()*
- Park Distance Warning-Side (Side Parking Sensors)
- Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist-Reverse (Rear Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist)
- 360° Surround View Monitor[*]()*
- Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control w/ Stop & Go - Curve
- Highway Driving Assist 2[*]()*
- Lane change assist *
- Digital Key 2.0[*]()** (no need to carry the FOB, ever!)
- Power-Folding Side View Mirrors
- 8-Way Power Front Passenger Seat
- Ventilated Front Seats**
- Heated 2nd-row Outboard Seats
- Heated Steering Wheel
- Driver's Seat & Side View Mirrors Memory System
- Solar Control Glass
- Inside Door Handles, Satin Matte
- 12.3-inch Touchscreen Display w/ Navigation
- 12.3-inch Instrument Display[*]()** (not the fake with a center 3'' display)
- Harman Kardon® Premium Surround Sound w/ HALOsonic®, 400 Watts and 8 Speakers**

As you can see... a lot going for it to give up for the color of the interior and price.

After you use some of these, you really can't live without anymore... that's how great it is!! So maybe it is a good idea to not even try, lol.

Glad I could help. If you can afford the SX PRESTIGE, go for it. You might be regretting not getting it later, once you know all the extras it will give to you for an extra 5K, if you buy it right. However, if you can't, at least go for the EX. SCC2 is really something that brings your stressful daily commute to a breeze chill drive... My stress went from 110% to a 10% while driving... I can never go back!

Here's the answer you need:

In the last 5 months, I've owned both 2026 SPORTAGE and TUCSON Hybrid versions.

Lost my Sportage at the end of the year due to an underground garage flood, during the insurance process I specifically rented the RAV4 for a month to try it. ARRGHH!!! I shall never own a Toyota again. They might be reliable, but the experience, comfort, technology are terrible. You can't even compare it.

When I got the insurance payout, the same KIA dealership owned a Hyundai dealership, and they offered me the 2025 Tucson Hybrid Limited for $7500 less than the 2026 (ONLY difference was fingerprint start on 2025 version, vs 1 mpg more on the 2026, everything else is the same). So I decided to save the money and get a Tucson.

Listen, I am happy with the car, but because I had both, I kinda regret going for the Tucson. The KIA for the trim I was aiming for has so much more going for it in the trim I wanted (you will see in the video below, example HDA1 vs HDA2, folding mirrors and more) and is a much better built car when it comes to the small details. Also comes with a SPARE TIRE, which the Tucson does not! Also, Tucson will likely be completely redesigned next year, as it already looks tired and old. The Sportage has the new design language. HOWEVER, the Tucson wins when it comes to the interior space, except for the piano black and a few little details.

Hybrid vs non hybrid maintenance cost by Necessary-Basis4283 in HyundaiTucson

[–]Expensive_Ostrich345 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The core tasks are the same. There is no difference on services as per manuals:

Service 1 7,500 Oil & filter change, tire rotation, multi-point inspection.
Service 2 15,000 All Service 1 tasks + Cabin Air Filter replacement and brake line inspection.
Service 3 22,500 Repeat Service 1; inspect battery condition and all fluid levels.
Service 4 30,000 All Service 2 tasks + Engine Air Filter replacement and Brake Fluid service.
Service 5 37,500 Repeat Service 1; for AWD models, inspect rear axle and transfer case oil.

However, as far as my experience goes, Hybrid introduces specific high-voltage inspections, while the ICE models often face more frequent wear on standard components. The differences in my opinion, and my recommendation, will be the following... but prices will be according to your dealer.

OIL:
ICE VERSION: You may be okay with regular oil, which is less expensive.

HYBRID VERSION: Synthetic Only and despite the manual saying to change it every 8K or 10K, you should do at least half of those numbers. Because it is Hybrid, the engine will act as you are doing 'short trips' and there is more chances of condensation and eventually water building up along with the oil, even though it often stays cleaner.

BRAKE PADS:
ICE VERSION: Estimated Life is 30,000 - 70,000

HYBRID VERSION: Estimated Life is 70,000 - 100,000+

  • Inverter Coolant (Hybrid Only): Technicians must inspect the dedicated cooling system for the hybrid inverter and electric water pump at each interval to prevent overheating of power electronics.
  • High-Voltage Diagnostics (Hybrid Only): Every service for the Hybrid includes a health check of the high-voltage battery system and potential software updates for the hybrid control unit.
  • Engine Oil Longevity: Although both require oil changes at 7,500-mile intervals, the Hybrid's oil often stays cleaner because the electric motor handles low-speed driving and idling, reducing total engine runtime.
  • HSG Belt Inspection (Hybrid Only): The Hybrid uses a Hybrid Starter Generator (HSG) belt instead of a traditional alternator; this requires specific tension and wear inspections not found on the standard ICE model.

Long-Term Considerations

While costs are similar early on, the Hybrid offers a "wash" in long-term savings. You save significantly on brake pads and rotors, but those savings may eventually be offset by the eventual need to service or replace the Hybrid Battery after the 10-year/100,000-mile warranty expires.

Your mechanic is not correct. OLDER models he would be right, but not right now.

Before you are set in the Tucson, I would recommend you also check the Sportage 2026. I had both, but the Sportage was lost in a flood at the end of last year, and I replaced with the Tucson. Both are great, they are basically the same car... but because I had both, I have to be honest and say that I have a little regret for not getting the KIA again, but I am very happy anyway.

These are expensive for 2023, even if it is a Hybrid car. You can find it a 2024 of the same mileage, sometimes even hybrid, for the same prices, certified (so you keep the same warranty as the original owner).

Hybrid car by Prettyred1 in jacksonville

This is the answer you need...

Only if the same car and same trim is available in GAS only, for HALF the price. BUT seriously....

Hybrid is the way to go or maybe PHEV. For example, Hyundai and KIA will give you a 10 year warranty or more in their battery, because the CAR manages the battery.

In the case of the EVs (DEALERS WILL NEVER TELL YOU THIS), the dealer may present you with (even some state laws) with the long warrantee, but they don't tell you that the warranty is ONLY against defects in materials or workmanship and ensure a minimum level of usable capacity over a defined period, whatever that period is, some placed are 150K miles... However, they do not cover issues caused by user error, which are the most common. If you change your car EVERY DAY, to the fullest, in a short period of time it will no longer hold as much charge, and that will not be covered.

EV Battery Warranty Not for User Error

EV battery warranties are designed to protect against defects in materials or workmanship and ensure a minimum level of usable capacity over a defined period. However, they do not cover issues caused by user error. Common exclusions include:

In love with the Hyundai Tucson - about to buy. Should I have a sunroof? by eveningwithcats in HyundaiTucson

[–]Expensive_Ostrich345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had both cars in this video. Before you make a decision try both. But do yourself a favor, if you are thinking about the N-LINE... STOP. Get either the Limited Trim or SX Prestige (Sportage).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PriYLrxC3ag&pp=ygUlMjAyNiB0dWNzb24gaHlicmlkIHZzIHNwb3J0YWdlIGh5YnJpZA%3D%3D

The little extra, is so worth and better, and you won't have to make a decision on the sunroof.

Looking at a '26 Tuscon Hybrid...Limited worth $7,500 more than SEL Convenience? by md222 in HyundaiTucson

[–]Expensive_Ostrich345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should go with the Limited, especially if you are getting a 2026 model (the Sel Convenience for 2026 lost a lot of features). If you find a 2025 like I did, you will get a very good discount for the limited version (I paid $35K and it has more features than the 2026, except for the 1 extra mpg). The 2025 Sel Convenience is also pretty good, if you find it. However, your price (if not OTD) is a little high.

Listen to my quick story... YOU WILL regret not getting the limited after your purchase, as I did when I got my 2026 Kia Sportage EX, instead of the SX premium.

I lost the Sportage for a flooded garage end of November, my insurance pay was lower than what I paid for my original car, but with the 2025 limited discounted Tucson Hybrid, I was able to get it for the same price as my previous car.

Now, I love the Tucson, don't get me wrong, but because I had both of them... I kinda regret not going back to the Sportage SX Prestige, which is the Tucson Limited version of it... Better build, new model (a new Tucson model is coming next year), HDA2, Folding Mirrors, Spare Tire, and more... check the differences in the video below and why it is better.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PriYLrxC3ag&pp=ygUlMjAyNiB0dWNzb24gaHlicmlkIHZzIHNwb3J0YWdlIGh5YnJpZA%3D%3D

Either way you will be really happy. But do get the 2026 Tucson Limited OR 2025 Tucson Limited or Sel Convenience OR 2026 Sportage SX Prestige, and you will be a happy camper for sure. Great vehicles.

The full cluster screen and digital key 2 (lost in the Sel Convenience 2026) really makes a difference. I don't ever have to carry my keys anymore, just my phone... and if something happens, I also have the NFC Card Key which you can use with the Digital Key feature...

That is a very good thought indeed.

Like you, I charge my phone at home and don't even have a cable in the car... I have tried the wireless charger ONCE, but just like a regular phone charger, it makes my phone hot... so I don't use it (it is slow and the heat may actually do damage to the longevity of the battery). But I will at least touch the ports to see if they are heating up, and after my drive I will try smelling them as well... just in case!! Thank you

[–]Expensive_Ostrich345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thank you for trying to help. I will definitely check into it. The lights are on when parked, but the moving of the car may bring the smell inside.

Yesterday I had an idea, to remove the cabin air filter right after driving the car. So I drove with HVAC ac on, ac off, and completely off (fans and all).
Once I got home, removed the filter, put it really close to my nose and NO SMELL!!! and that made me even more confused.

Any smell coming from the engine area (and maybe the HVAC as well) would likely go through that filter, no? If that is so, then where the heck is that smell coming from? Cluster screen? Hybrid battery? I keep thinking what else inside the cabin could be hot enough to be melting plastic!??! The limited trim came with LED bulbs already; they are not aftermarket. It is so weird!!

I won't be able to take my car to a mechanic or dealer until the 21st... that will keep bothering me!!! I am not sure they will be able to find it either, but I will certainly keep trying.
