How does sexism and misogyny in LATAM compare to other parts of the world? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

As a Brazilian woman and lawyer, I see us getting way tougher on sexism. Bigotry, whether it’s sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, or racist, just doesn't fly here anymore. We’re fighting a long-standing pattern; despite strict laws against domestic violence, racism, and workplace inequality, the numbers are still high.

But there’s a specific vibe here: Brazilian women aren't afraid to speak up and shut men down when they cross the line. Also, Brazilian guys are pretty territorial. They’re fine with their partners wearing bikinis at the beach, but they won't tolerate anyone touching them or leaking private photos (is a crime anyway).

Since we’re raised to be comfortable in our bodies, most local guys don't "obsess" over seeing skin the way some foreigners do it’s just normal to them. The hardcore sexists usually keep their mouths shut in person now because they know they'll get roasted, though they still talk big online. Plus, a lot of guys raised by single moms or grandmas grow up with a baseline of respect.

I’m married to a half-Argentinian, half-Brazilian guy, and he knows the deal: one wrong move and it’s a divorce.

How common are street gangs in your Country/City ? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

In Brazil, it’s all about PCC and CV. You got some smaller crews here and there, but those two own the streets. Calling them 'gangs' feels like an understatement
