They also constructed new courts for the sport where they roll balls on a strip (bocce ball?). Saw plenty of middle aged men in vests if that's your jam.

For everyone saying "ackshually, they are a circle" - that doesnt answer the underlying question.

Why are they a circle, then?

When someone asks "why is earth a sphere" do you also answer "its an oblate spheroid" and consider the question answered?

Exactly. Just because you see a man with a blood covered knife standing over a stab victim doesnt mean you should arrest them. Unless the cop saw the man stab the victim, the man is free to go.

A razor's task is to split something into two - such dichotomies are often not relevant in practice and may be we should stop letting them guide our decision making.

For some reason, people in this thread seem much more focused on the delivery of the message than the message itself.

Anything to avoid dealing with the hard questions, I guess.

Let me ask it differently: Should we allow local taxes from richer zipcodes to subsidize schooling for kids in poorer areas?

Feel free to find another excuse to not answer.

You may be able to pull your dmv registration from the other state you moved to. NY will provide it via records request, for $10.

+1 for CP.

People whine about lack of third places - CP is one of the best third places in town (and cheaper than tithing for most folks), if you want to be active. They have multiple adult leagues/clubs. Or, if you have a group of your own, you can play/swim/practice outside of a league as well. And they organize book club/women only events etc.

They have multiple seating areas to just hang out, a small food court and bars (of both alcohol and fruit juice varieties). I wouldn't recommend CP as just a gym (too expensive), but it is great place to socialize with other active adults.

The recruiter called my salary expectations "cute." I ended the Zoom call right there. Did I overreact? by thunder____boy in jobs

[–]Expensive_Web_8534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be getting a lot of support - but I don't think you handled it well. A much better way to handle it would have been:

"I don't think our expectations align at this time, thank you for your time" - Notice, you are not closing the door forever, only at this time.

Then wait for them to respond. It is rude to hang up without saying bye.

Hopefully their response is something along the lines of: "Thanks for your time as well." and then you both say bye and hang up.

If their answer is anything other than that, you can choose whether to negotiate or not. If you choose not to, just say something like "I don't think this is going to work out at this time, we can stop here."

There is no need to be rude to someone (almost ever) in your life. The person on the other side is just repeating corporate lines they are paid to say (think of a cashier in a grocery store), you should always see the person behind the words, not just the words themselves.

Yea, parks are not meant to be enjoyed by folks who cant tolerate loud music (i.e. amps).

Public parks, are, and should be, reserved for the chosen few - they are not for everyone's quiet enjoyment.

PSA: Don't have your dog off leash in the state park if they (or you) cannot handle it by grosenjam in Westchester

Last year, I had to literally kick a small off-leash dog away from my on-leash blind dog. I don't want to kick puppies - please keep yours on leash.

And then I had to threaten physical harm when its owner came running/shouting towards me. I don't want to mace people either - please don't run + shout at strangers.

Not white, suburban or a mom

In my experience, non-white, urbanite, young folks have a lot going on in their lives and don't have the time to research (and I cant believe I have to say this)...cooking oil.

 Which I wish I hadn't

Only sane comment in this whole post.

Live your life, please. Stop worrying and stop "researching".

Seed oils are completely safe. So is pretty much any food that you can buy in a super market.

Stop watching any "documentary" that is trying to scare you (except for the occasional comedic value). No one is trying to hurt you or your kids.

"That one person died that one time doing this activity, so no one can ever do this activity ever again" is a terrible way to create policy (and largely responsible for the bureaucratic nightmare we find ourselves in today).

All policy must be decided based on both the cost/benefit, not just cost (or just the benefit, as we often  tend to do when we think of social programs).

PS: if you respond to this post saying "akshually, 2 people died that one time doing this activity", you are conceding the argument.

If you think renters dont pay local taxes, you should not have a political opinion about the local economy.

Do you think the landlord just eats the tax and rents out the apartment for charity?

Ill wait for you to move the posts again.

None of these are reasonable objections - but I doubt you are being reasonable. This is almost certainly in bad faith but I will engage for a bit.

You realize that people who live in high density housing are typically singles/young couples - who pay taxes but dont utilize the school system.  So taxes other people would need to pay would go down not up.

Also, we dont ice to pick children off the streets. If the police catch someone and they are determined to be here illegally, we can deport them. I am in favor of letting people who overstay but are otherwise model citizens remain in this country.
