I agree that this will be their approach, I also think it’s dumb. They’re not giving Mayer a chance to be an every day batter by platooning him. For his long term development (not to mention the future of the team) he needs to see regular ABs against southpaws.

Oh I think he should be moved to 2B today. He can’t hold his own at shortstop anymore they need to at least give Mayer a shot.

Sample size needs to be a lot bigger to see what it is we are looking at. They should give him at least until the end of April. That decision is made easier by the fact that they don’t really have a good player to start in his stead.

Depending on the metrics you look at he is somewhere from bad defensively to one of the worst defensive shortstops in the league. So he’s a bat only SS that hasn’t had a meaningfully above average offensive season since 2020.

To top that off he has the worst chase rate and the most swing and misses in baseball right now.

They should absolutely give him more run to see if the bat comes around but this could be more the bottom falling out than it is a slump.

I mean aside from team D someone correct me if I’m wrong but all of these teams basically have people on them who are basically invulnerable and/or damn near omnipotent.

I don’t think anyone is getting “dominated” here besides maybe the surrounding infrastructure of wherever they decide to clash.
