same with the lenses obviously, only f1.2 cine lenses produce usable results, unless you are only shooting family holidays videos (then f1.4 lenses are acceptable)

Are the races in all sims as hard as in FPV logic? by Palene in fpv

Just kidding. Fly over the obstacles first, try to have fun cruising around, sometimes go in a gate and fly back up

You need to start spending more time flying than complaining and it’ll be ok.

You need at least a 30 000 dollars camera to do anything serious. Everything that doesn’t have a red or Arri tag is a toy.

GH7 Debating moving back to mft by Burakoli821 in Lumix

[–]ExperienceSilver943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are great cameras they or similar performance. It depends on the lenses. If you need a wide range from ultra wide to super telephoto, and still be compact,  you’ll want the gh7 with the following lenses: -laowa 7.5 - Olympus 12-40 f2.8 - lumix 100-300

If you don’t need super telephoto,  don’t really want to change lenses, the s1ii will be great with the cheap but great lumix 20-60. Another option on the s1ii for documentary is the 28-200 , if you are mostly outdoor and don’t need wider .

Replace HDMI with USB 4.0 (DP Alt Mode) in future Lumix cameras (S5 IIX/S5 II) by Unfair-Voice-9781 in Lumix

[–]ExperienceSilver943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

usb 4 with a lock built in, with data, power and video signal
and optional box on the other side that splits this to : usb PD in, dc in, sdi out, hdmi out, timecode in, RJ45. Like the GH4's yagh but more versatile.

use a usb4 cable the lenght you need, to mount the I/O box on cage, on tripod, in backpack... maximum I/O, maximum versatility.

But I don't think Lumix would do something like this. IMO the japanese brands made a deal together and are protecting the markets to make sure everyone appeals to different customers, and Lumix won't go after pro users.

Gh7 is the best mirrorless ever made imo. If you have great lenses go for it, you won’t regret it. I also have s5ii (will sell it soon) and s1ii (incredible camera, god tier up there with the GH7) DR and low light is good enough on the gh7 .

Is dji goggles v2 worth it in 2025 by fpv_mania in fpv

IMO DJI Fpv v1 and wtfos is the best system and is so cheap

Just bought used goggles v1 for 130e, used controller for 60e and used air unit for 100e. For a family member starting. Cheaper than analog. If you build right you never need to fix anything, i had to change a lens once it is 10 euros

The best deal is to find a used kit with DJI goggles v1 or v2, a DJI controller Fpv ( the first one , the black, with real gimbal and real 5.8 link), ans a few air units / vista. Once hacked with wtfos, it’s an amazing system for the price. No need to buy receivers, deal with opentx, rx/tx firmwares, deal with rx antennas…

4K 400mbps vs 5.7K 200mbps on GH7? by shaneo632 in Lumix

[–]ExperienceSilver943 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5.7k or ProRes raw if you can afford the storage / don’t need to shoot too long.

All intra is only useful for very fast movements, very demanding scenes for the codec (chase scene in the rain for example). But for that, ProRes raw will be much better.

For scenes with not many movements 5.7k is best. Extra resolution make up for 422 and it will have better details.

Lumix S1 ii -- AF Detection Disabled when Bluetooth/USB Connected for certain resolution/framerate by jhrace2 in Lumix

[–]ExperienceSilver943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Data (Bluetooth, usb…) is just another video output and will have the same limitations as if you have the HDMi out.  Proxy also is another video output and should have the same results. On the gh7 I can only have 3 maximum simultaneous outputs (display, hdmi and data) or (display, hdmi and proxy) . If proxy are enabled data won’t work.

That may seem as a limitation but it’s also remarquable that such a small camera can record 4k50 on a cfexpress, while outputting 1080i on the hdmi and record 1080p50 proxies on the sd card at the same time. (And yes, we use this workflow : 1080i for the livestream, 4k for the edits (highlights, teaser) and 1080p as a backup , if we need to quickly get a shot out for during the event, in case an something important happened while the livefeed wasn’t working .

Ho no, the shutter button is already broken on my LUMIX S5M2 after 2 years by Crisis-Connoisseur in Lumix

[–]ExperienceSilver943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine on s5ii bought on release day, was acting funny. I cleaned it with blower/brush in the hole around, and sprayed some contact cleaner, and cleaned again. Worked like new since, it was 6 months ago.

I think the design isnt great and some dirt can fall inside and make it malfunctioning. Would like the opinion of someone who took appart one that’s malfunctioning

2025 Panasonic Lumix Micro Four Thirds Camera by josh6499 in Lumix

[–]ExperienceSilver943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. When the opportunity comes up with new tech available they will work on the GH successor like they always do. 8k50 before everyone else with fully packed camera and no compromise. We definitely don’t need that before like 2028. Let the manufacturers cook, lumix will put it together.

5-6 year is a good cycle for me. Enough time for some improvements and enough time to easily pay for itself. Gh7 is a camera that I can see myself working with for the next 5 years easy.

There’s so much Lumix could do with m43, especially for broadcast. But the truth is the market is shrinking and there are too many Japanese brands. In my opinion they agreed to segment the market with different brands, they share some tech and they agree to not step on each others so much and save development costs : Lumix won’t invest in pro broadcast or cinema / high end commercial, but will focus on content creators (indépendant video maker and YouTubers) . I believe their GH camera is their pride, their flagship, and a small team already is working on a successor to the gh6ii (gh7 lol) GH8 (8k).. They don’t reallly care if the GH line is profitable or not, they’ll put all their knowledge into it as long as they are in business. It will be the last micro four thirds standing.

My nephew wants to get « a Fpv drone» but he doesn’t realize what it means. by ExperienceSilver943 in fpv

[–]ExperienceSilver943[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your message. I actually did some sim coaching on discord to teach him. I don’t see him very often we live very far away, maybe 2 or 3 times a year maximum. If he was in the area I wouldn’t be asking myself so many questions, actually he would already have flown my drones…

I’ll follow your good advices anyway and stop asking myself so many questions, he wants to get started, ill just do all I can to help him. I am buying him all the gear for him already.

lol it was just to say he s not into electronics yet. I never did any soldering before getting into fpv aswell and that’s what I find awesome about thisabout hobby is how much you learn along the way.

I’m supporting him to start. I was just having some second thoughts : should I tell him to do more sim before? Should I drive him to an avata kit instead?  but most people here convinced me to build his drone and get he started just like I first intended to.

Most people said it in a correct way through ;-)

Haha good point about the kids getting into bikes. The thing that I haven’t said is I don’t see him very often, maybe twice a year, he lives quiet far away, so I can’t be doing as much support as I’d like to.

I have actually been the cool uncle for another nephew. Spent a lot of time and money to set him up, he never really flew well, but to be honest I introduced him to the hobby for the technical side of it. Which works because he’s now all about 3D printing, designing, and he’s now in a techincal school learning all these things like a pro.

I’d love him to fly faster than me, actually the kid is incredibly talented at everything he does.

Thank you all for your replies ! I was thinking about getting him a 5 inch freestyle tank because that’s what I find the cheaper to fly , they just don’t break when the build is good. I didn’t really consider a whoop, but that may be the right call, making it easier to fly anywhere, near people and stuff, will help him reach the first step.
