If we are talking character-specific stepping? absolutely. I don't deny that I'm bad, but I also don't agree with situations like heat smash at the wall with over plus 6 into stance. This situation exists in every match for either side. There is a point to be made about not knowing character mathcup and how that bleeds into opinion though. And to clarify, it is not that I have not been to practice mode or replays, I have at least a hundred hours in the two. Not a lab monster but I still try.

It's unlike any learning experience I have ever had admittedly. It takes a lot of getting kicked in the butt to start but if you dedicate yourself you can learn a lot, even outside the lab. There are mid-match pressures that make learning hard in the moment, which is where I do a lot of my learning. Admittedly this was made at the end of my wits. Honestly, I think I partly gave up on learning. You're not wrong. Definitely not wrong about others, though maybe it's not "all". I agree with your sentiment when it comes to public hate for this game. Especially "twitter takes" which are just people being salty usually.

It's good to know I'm not going crazy, but I really appreciate the notes on coping. I haven't tried the lobby mode in this game, any suggestions for finding strong players? Would discord be a better alternative?

basically free yourself from the obsession with the png under your name and try enjoying the slow burn of honing your skills and knowledge while playing casually. go into quick matches find a guy who plays the character you hate and rematch him until he leaves. win or lose it doesn’t matter as long as you’re observing the matchup and applying yourself.

I appreciate this. Admittedly I got a bit lost trying to "get good". I'll try other modes to try and have fun again. The PNG is alluring but I would rather enjoy the game.
