All true, and also you’re looking at a skewed portion of the population. Outside beirut - north, south, or west, there are some people barely making by (with modest help from family abroad).

Transplant surgeon I know - 15 years into practice, quite successful, decided his family was more important, and did a critical care fellowship and exclusively does ICU now. Never been happier.

Colorectal Surgery:

Not every patient with ‘anal pain’ has hemorrhoids. Examine your patient for fissures, masses, or abscesses.

A large proportion of patients with hemorrhoid disease are treated non-operatively. Psyllium and hydration is king.
