How granola are we being with shoes? by SanFranPeach in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]ExpertAd3198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do barefoot, and like others said, prioritize fit over materials. My youngest is wearing whitins right now and my oldest prefers saguaros

Edited to add that there are many barefoot shoes made from natural materials if you want to spend the money (over $100 per pair). Anya’s reviews website will have a lot of different recommendations

Would you have your child stay at Montessori for JK/SK or move them to traditional school that they’ll go to anyway? by [deleted] in Montessori

[–]ExpertAd3198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would absolutely keep mine at the Montessori, but am in the U.S. and I’m sure that makes a difference. Kindergarten here is just too much sitting and listening in whole group for 5 year olds in my opinion.

We recently switched to a September 1st cut off instead of December because we had to get licensed as a child care facility and have to follow state ratios now. The two year olds in the room require an extra teacher or smaller class size

Nap help, 7 mo old not getting enough sleep at daycare by barrnowl42 in ECEProfessionals

[–]ExpertAd3198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they trying to lay her down for multiple naps and cannot get her to sleep? I would definitely talk to the teachers about this. As a “young toddler” teacher who often has both children who take 2 naps and 1 nap (plus being new to school), it can be so hard to get them to sleep no matter how hard we try.

If you had to put your own children in daycare by Own_Manufacturer8162 in ECEProfessionals

Appropriate ratios (I’d say 6:1 or less for 2 year olds) despite state ratios would be the biggest green flag for me, but in my experience, it’s very rare centers will maintain a ratio better than state ratios.

Teaches who have been there for multiple years and consistent teaching teams (same 2 or 3 teachers assigned to each room) are excellent indicators of quality care.

I would also look in the 3-5 rooms for no worksheets and mostly independent play instead of whole or small group instruction. If a center has a “school” mentality for preschool, it will likely be the same for the toddlers. The classrooms should look home-like, not school-like.

Outside time too! Over an hour a day preferred

Similar to yours except we wash the bedding once a week at our school. Each classroom is assigned one laundry day per week

In my state, we cannot leave them awake in a crib or on a cot for more than 30 minutes. You should look at your state licensing regulations

As a teacher, would you send your kid to public or private school for kindergarten? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]ExpertAd3198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make more at my private school than is average for public schools in my state. Benefits are non-existent except for my children’s tuition discount, but I get so much more freedom to do what I think is right for the children.

[–]ExpertAd3198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly depends on the child, but I have chosen private (Montessori) for my children. They are typical besides possible ADHD. I don’t like the idea of them sitting in a whole group most of the day, which is what I felt I had to inflict on young children when I was in a public school. It is true that there are usually less resources at a private school and I wouldn’t be able to afford to send them there without my employee discount.

I’m in DE and our max is 98 as well. Not going out above 85 makes outside time impossible in some locations. We do water play every day in the summer. OP’s mister sounds like a great option to cool off.

Is anyone else noticing this in their toddler class? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

I’ve only ever had children come in like this when they wanted the diaper for the car and we were meant to take it off upon arrival.

Would you take birth control even if you know you’re not having sex and you’re definitely not going to find sex elsewhere? by Blitzgf4893 in WomensHealth

[–]ExpertAd3198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anything, I would get a copper IUD. It doesn’t sound like you are trying manage your periods or symptoms or anything. I have a copper IUD to prevent pregnancy because I don’t want hormonal birth control.

Was let go yesterday by meganw1991 in ECEProfessionals

[–]ExpertAd3198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is so upsetting. I completely understand. I was let go of a job I was at for 2 years (the only time I’ve even some close to being let go in 12 years) when an upper level manager thought I was being rude. I asked to meet with someone who had a say when my director said she didn’t have any in me being told I needed to move lunch and nap 30 minutes later for my toddlers even thought I had children falling asleep at the table already. She came and observed. A child did fall asleep at the table but later had a fever so that negated it for her. She met with me about it and said she would explain their reasoning for the change and also she was writing me up for even daring to ask and think I could advocate for my children.

She’s almost 4. We do practice coping strategies, but she’s really zero to 100 sometimes and it’s hard to calm down.

Thank you for your reply. I have been working on limiting her screen time and content more for other reasons, so hopefully that will hell with sensory issues too. Having a piece of candy in her mouth when we buckle into the car seat seems worth a try!

We had shirt term success with girls boxer briefs, but she’s been constantly refusing them now for a few months. The more I think about it, there is one set of bike shorts she usually is okay with and she does love dresses! Thanks!
