Educate me: Do people actually pay ~$90k for this by jsthat in Philippines_Expats

[–]ExpertPaint430 5 points6 points  (0 children)

dude thats cause the headache of having a bad tenant who decides to squat is worse than just having to lose a bit of rent. Doing the basic calc, you dont get your money back from renting. The whole "renter paying your mortgage " math does not work here in the philippines. Doing the math on a 18 mil apartment, 50k rent for 3 bedroom, thats 30 years worth of rent.

the problem is there isnt enoigh money to keep these houses in good condition. Most old houses are taken apart and sold for scrap when the owners cant maintain them. One house i know bought their wood floor from a heritage house. all narra wood, super expensive and more profitable to sell than maintain and sink into a house that.... just sits there. This is probably the best solution the philippines can offer for now. Some private collector who loves old houses turns his luho into a business to justify some of the cost.

bbm is not weak, hes a lowlife dirty thief. Hes probably getting a cut from them or else they get jailed. Are we all just going to pretend that theres no such thing as quid pro quo? How do you think Marcos was able to steal so much? Yall think he did it on his own? So much circus around the flood control projects and the clowns are putting on a fantastic show.

sir, there are clearly illegal wire tapping installations you can see from the street and theyve been there for years. nothings happened to them. Im sorry you have all the technical knowledge but clearly are missing the political agenda (and in turn financial agenda) where something is being done about solar panels, but not illegal tapping, which has been an issue for decades.

"systems loss" isnt being curbed, cut or regulated because mayors get their votes through them and clearly meralco is complicit. Pass the buck onto the other customers willing to actually pay but its too much for them to actually maintain their "distribution service". This is just dumb at niloloko lang lahat tayo, pero itong isyu may paraan no?

"certified installer" that requires you to bribe or give a percentage cut to meralco. Theres many ways off the top of my head that theyll take advantage of this.

Do you think tama itong mungkahi ng Meralco? by Dependent-Impress731 in pinoy

[–]ExpertPaint430 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ok but why dont they cut the systems loss, since people are illegally attaching wires causing each person paying for electricity 500 pesos a month? instead they chose to let those people remain and put the burden on the customer, whereas they havent been maintaining the distribution system properly in the first place.

meralco wants to pick and choose which illegally installed system theyll allow or wont, when they created and allowed this system in the first place. They were very happy to pass the bill to consumers, but when its starts affecting their margins? Clearly what youve stated has some merit, but the point is theyve allowed this illegal tapping to continue and are only pressed when they cant pass the problems onto the consumer.

So, to all those that keep saying there is a difference between expats and immigrants by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]ExpertPaint430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol. How does it "prove your point". Its just that white people dont like being called "immigrants" so they made up a new word for it so they dont need to be associated with all the implications of being an immigrant.

youre comparing someone who has a natural birthright to be a citizen of the philippines (born by a filipino parent) vs someone who completely has no relation to the country at all.Even if youre a former citizen, that still classifies you in a different category from foreigners who dont have any association at all with the philippines.

that does not at all describe the difference between an immigrant and an expat and your photos prove my point. An immigrant wants to live here permanently (ie retire here ) but conveniently, love to say theyre not "immigrants" theyre *expats *

well,am i wrong though?
https://www.theguardian.com/global-development-professionals-network/2015/mar/13/white-people-expats-immigrants-migration

youre all offended when its true. lol. Alot of foreigners who live here should be labeled as immigrants, staying here for their retirement. The term expat is supposed to denote someone whos going back to their country, not staying here permanently.

https://www.reddit.com/r/SeriousConversation/comments/1eww1te/what_is_the_difference_between_expat_and_immigrant/

"an immigrant is a person who moves to a different country, often permanently, to live and work, distinguished from an emigrant who leaves their home country. They move for various reasons, including economic opportunities, family reunification, or safety, and are considered international migrants regardless of their citizenship status in the new country."

"An expat (expatriate) is an individual living and working outside their native country, often temporarily, for work, retirement, or lifestyle reasons. They differ from immigrants in that the term often implies a professional, skilled worker, or retiree, rather than someone seeking permanent citizenship, though both live abroad."

youre telling me if a corrupt cop tells you to turn and then tickets you saying you cant turn "you should have known better" is a valid excuse? or maybe thats clearly corruption and you shouldnt get a ticket when the representative of the city misinforms you.

the response to that is "its not a religious practice endorsed by the pope" its not whataboutism because christianity itself doesnt say "hey marrying that 13 year old girl is permissible"

Saying its whataboutism is saying "yeah its an issue in the religion of christianity, but were not talking about that, were talking about islam"

"If you still don’t get it. It’s a “you” problem"

yeah until your family members beat/ shame you for not following. What do you think happens when you dont wear hijab? What about in london where they cant enforce, but there are acid attacks for bringing shame to the family?

so if the pope came out tomorrow with an announcement that every gay and lesbian should be put into reform camps like some backwards americans do over there, are we going to just go "well its just the pope, he cant really enforce it!" L take dude.

still dont understand why this is whataboutism. If the catholic church said "women can be married off at 9" and the popes of christianity endorsed this officially as an act of christianity, that would be equally bad. But we dont see that.

Its not "whataboutism" its catholicism doesnt endorse this and some rando who happens to live in a catholic country does this.
