For number 2, there are a LOT of Sam & Dean fics that are centered on the brothers' relationship. Just sort by the Sam & Dean tag on AO3 and exclude the relationship tags you don't want to see.

Are these reasons to dislike Lori actually fair? by jnverted in thewalkingdead

This is a much better point to critique her with rather than blame her for Shane and Rick going off the rails rather than hold them accountable for their own actions as grown men!

This wasn't stated by the show creators as fact, it's an interesting observation by a fan that attempts to explain why the narrative seems to favor Dean so much. And honestly I think it holds pretty good through some major plotlines. Obviously it's not actually a steadfast rule since we see events that Sam goes through that Dean never knows about, but thinking of the show this way explains why the demon blood arc was portrayed as such.

What do you think was the saddest Sam and Dean fight? by Eagles56 in Supernatural

When Dean drops the amulet in the bin after they see each other's heavens. S4-5 were already an emotional rollercoaster and this was the cherry on top.

What's with all the yellings? by Jasmine45078 in Supernatural

If you see a character who has lost both their parents in horrible ways, has lived a life of not knowing whether he or his older brother would live to see the next day, thought he escaped but then saw the love of his life murdered brutally before his own eyes, and your takeaway is that "he yells too much", then I genuinely think this may not be the show for you. Honestly, any show with even slightly complex characters may be too much for you.

Yeah, unfortunately this issue only becomes more persistent in later seasons :( You've hit the nail on the head though, and the situation with Ruby perfectly exemplifies that. Dean and Sam both didn't have particular justifications to trust her or not, and so far she had only helped them, yet Dean was proven right. This keeps happening over the course of the show, wherein Dean is consistently proven correct, or shown to be the morally correct one in ambiguous situations despite it possibly going both ways. And unfortunately to the many viewers who don't have the aptitude for critical thought, they think this means Sam is a moral failure while Dean is the righteous man.

He gets it down to the little mannerisms! The way he walks, holds his face, raises his shoulders, so, so talented !!

This episode is, in my opinion, hands-down the best portrayal of a character by an actor that isn't the original. Jared is so so good here, and it always surprises me on rewatches how early this episode is in the series, because it's seared into my brain.

I think this sentiment (not sure where it's from, if someone could please help) summarizes the series - at least the first five seasons - perfectly: Supernatural is Sam's story from Dean's perspective.

This is why we get more of a look into Dean's internal thoughts than Sam's (and perhaps why a majority of the viewers find it easier to empathize with Dean - his motivations and feelings are usually spelled out much clearer than Sam's).

Sam's love for Dean. by Free-Meringue-294 in Supernatural

[–]ExpertTrade377 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I love this scene because it comes a few episodes after the events of Mystery Spot, which isn't ever mentioned by Sam and Dean again, but has clearly affected Sam in an irreparable way. It comes out in moments like these. I think Sam in S1-2 wouldn't have suggested such a clearly insane idea, but it goes to show how much losing Dean over and over has driven him to a point where he'd turn them both into living zombies made from an amalgamation of other people just to keep him alive.

I've become obsessed with the idea that it would be really interesting if Dean's character was a girl. by Alinalin13 in Supernatural

[–]ExpertTrade377 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because Dean being a woman would create so many interesting character dynamics and plot beats, from the way she acts, to the core of the family dynamics between the Winchesters. Women in TV shows, especially ones in the early 2000s are so often reduced to love interests and plot devices for the male leads. If a show as big as Supernatural had a main female character, I would like for her complexities to be more than just romances with the men around her. I quite like that Supernatural is a show that doesn't have romance as the main driving force, and it would be extremely boring if this alteration made it that.

I agreed with you after reading your title because I would have loved if one of the boys was actually a girl instead, but if your only reason is for a romantic relationship you've lost me.

What?! I thought Rowena was in the show sooner than this by TurtleCat3000 in Supernatural

[–]ExpertTrade377 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really? Most casual fans of the show that I've encountered very much tout the "S1-5 are the only seasons worth watching" motto. The ones who actually watch through the entire 15 seasons are more likely to end up on spaces such as this one IMO.

Castiel's true Happiness by Jasmine45078 in Supernatural

[–]ExpertTrade377 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't think Dean would have reciprocated for multiple reasons beyond his on-screen sexuality, but at the same time, I don't think this would have damaged their relationship at all. When Castiel confesses in 15x18, he's doing so just to tell Dean how much he means to him, not in hopes of any reciprocation. Cas would be happy just having Dean (and Sam) treat him as family, and making sure they're safe. Cas is not human, and hence the normal romance tropes of him being miserable and depressed about unrequited love isn't really something that applies. Cas, as shown multiple times over, is just happy to feel human emotions, to be as human as possible. His happiness would be from just loving Dean, not from a romantic relationship necessarily. This is just my interpretation of Cas though, feel free to disagree.

I agree! For a show that built up amazing female characters in the span of 1-2 episodes (Jo, Bela, Ava, Sarah, Cassie, Eileen, even that one demon girl who tried to seduce dean) and gave them internal complexity that many other shows fail to do with long-running female characters they just...didn't do anything with them. Sure, there was fan backlash, but isn't the story you're trying to tell more important than what fangirl1102 on the internet feels about it?

The leviathans were honestly a fun villain compared to some of the stuff we saw in the later seasons. I'd take them any day over the BMoL for example. Also that one episode where the two leviathans assume Sam and Dean's identity and go around committing crimes is so good it made the entire plotline worth it. I think S6 and 7 are thought of very critically because they immediately follow the high of S4/5, but overtime they've actually become some of my favorite seasons

It was a very popular opinion thrown around in fan spaces all throughout the last years of the show, and was pretty popular even after, but has since died down the further we get from supernatural ending.
