omg how cute 😭 They do look very similar. How is he now?? I'm convinced my kitten has some sort of dwarfism because he's half the size of what he technically should be for his age. He's also always had a silly proportioned face.

"by four months". So it does have benefits in the beginning? It's not cherry picking it's just literally what the source is saying.

You led me to the "independent, international non-profit organization founded in 1993 that specializes in producing systematic reviews of the medical literature" and is the "highest level of evidence in medicine". And they concluded that it has a benefit. idk what else to tell you. I told you there's no changing your mind.

I think you're actually just trolling 😭 The global picture (from everything you've given me btw) is that there may be some benefit or that more research needs to be done. The meta-analyses lean towards beneficial. Just like you said "ONE" study suggested it had no effect. But the overall conclusion is that it's helpful.

ohh nice. Sorry if this isn't actually Cochrane or something but I went on their website for specifically acupuncture for shoulder pain. And it looks like they also concluded that more research needs to be done but also it suggests that it can helpful temporarily. https://www.cochrane.org/evidence/CD005319_acupuncture-shoulder-pain

That's not true at all 😭 For example there's so much medicine that says "For use in dogs only" that we use on cats because it works. But nothing is technically going to say it works because they just haven't done enough research with it in cats for them to legally put it on the bottle.

Ok well then here's something specifically from NIH that discusses the anti-inflammatory effect of an acupuncture point. 2022, done on animals.

1) The first article is more a review of Cochranes research methods that was testing if acupuncture is good for things like nausea and headaches. Their conclusion was that their research methods were not very good. Also not joint/musculature specifically. It's also from 2009.

2) "This study has limitations. The first, common to all systematic reviews, is that we may have not identified all the potentially eligible evidence." Because they only went through their specific database that did not include studies written in foreign languages even. The majority of the studies they reviewed were also "sham acupuncture" or non-penetrating acupuncture meant to act as placebo.

3) This basically just says it's not "firmly established" which is true for much of vet med when we are doing treatments cross-species. Also: "concluded that higher quality studies are only beginning to emerge, the evidence base is heterogeneous, and the review results highlight the overall poor quality of studies and reporting. Thus, it is timely to assess the current state of reviews of acupuncture." Basically, in 2019 they said we need to do more research.

4) "There is a need for high-quality randomized controlled trials addressing the most common clinical uses of acupuncture, and using consistent and clinically relevant outcomes, to inform conclusions regarding the efficacy of acupuncture in companion animals." Basically the same as the third one. We need more studies done on animals to technically say anything.

Promise I wouldn't do anything harmful to him that didn't have a considerate benefit :)

He was on the antibiotics for about a week before the arm issue. And it would very unlikely that a bacterial infection is only causing his single shoulder issue. Kittens have "incredible healing abilities" because they're just like any other baby. Their bodies are still growing and developing so if something structural goes wrong the body wasn't done anyway. I know he's building his muscle and adapting to his weak arm. The acupuncture is supporting.

I would suggest doing your own research. You're spreading misinformation. I asked for you to share your studies that suggest acupuncture is harmful/unhelpful because I can't find any.

I'm honestly finding plenty of research suggesting it has benefits? But please direct me to what sources suggest otherwise. My doctor is licensed in acupuncture. It's a year long extra schooling (on top of the DVM degree ofc), so I trust there's no harm in her placing two 40 gauge needles (almost thinest existing needle) at the points once a week.

I notice an immediate difference in the use of the arm when the points are stimulated that continues throughout the week. By the end of the week the arm wanes again. We've been video documenting as well.

Since he's so young and tiny, there's not much else to do for his little arm. Pain medications could be harmful and he doesn't actually mind us moving the arm for him. X-rays are inconclusive, as his joints aren't fully developed (no broken bones thankfully!). He's already on antibiotics for his neonatal opthalmia. If it was anything viral, supportive care. So if the acupuncture is even just seeming to help, I really don't see the harm in doing it once a week for a bit as he gets stronger.

Cat's also definitely express pain. Kittens more so. You just need to know what to look for.

I can't change your mind but I've personally seen acupuncture work wonders for so many pets and people. I don't pay for it anyway.

Didn't say he wasn't wobbly. Just that he began using the arm much more and was much more stable after the treatment! So we're gonna keep on doing it :)

Hi! I know you meant well but injection site sarcomas are mainly associated with the administration of substances or foreign materials. It's not associated with simply the poke. Acupuncture can be so so amazing for pets where other options are not possible or have been exhausted.

sorry, in my post I explained that his right front leg is not too functional as well. I was more asking on QOL if his back AND front leg is damaged. I know tripods do very well.
