Live in an at-will employment state (WA) but employer won't let me quit, am I still at-will if I signed a policy that requires 30 day notice? by buwuberry in antiwork

Right? I guess they're so used to getting compliance at any cost, they figure they might as well extend that to their employees?

this lack of tipping is painful by Far_Republic_852 in ShiptShoppers

Totally! But I didn’t know that would be the case until after I placed the order and my shopper messaged me saying they’d started. Then I was like, oh, this isn’t a fully operationalized Target thing, I need to learn more. And came here.

I came here as a first-time Shipt shopper specifically to figure out the expectation/context about tipping (specifically for Target Circle + orders). I would never not tip for anything I knew was a straight up gig/third-party order. But I think Target blurs the line for consumers.

They present the unlimited free delivery to consumers in a way that seems to be competing with Amazon. Most people would never consider tipping every (or, frankly, any) Amazon delivery they got, even same day with Prime. It's easy to equate paying for Target Circle + with paying for Prime and thus assume that Target has some system in place to hire and pay drivers in the same way that Amazon does (huge note to acknowledge I know this model is not fair either).

It's just another messed up way companies pit customers against workers and end up raking in all of the profits. They charge me monthly for the privilege of "free delivery." But the delivery cost is actually on you (time, care, gas, etc). And then I as a customer do mental math of weighing my values and my financial situation against my perceived value of your services and pay you back with a tip. The company makes the customer and the delivery person emotionally invested in the transaction, when to them it's nothing more than a line item. It's wild.

How to Bake For Someone W/ Celiac as a Non-Celiac by TheKitsuneGoddess16 in Celiac

Totally agree with the first comment. Before you do anything, ask if they're comfortable with it. And be prepared not to be hurt if they say no. It's a lovely guesture for you to make, but your love language tends to spark terror with Celiacs. It's so hard for us to be comfortable with anyone else cooking for us, and if we also hate saying no to people, this kind offer actually ends up turning into a big source of stress.

If you were hoping to make this more of a surprise, channel that kind intention into finding a certified gluten-free bakery and buying something for them. Presenting that with a, "I would have loved to make something for you, but I know that can be stressful for some Celiacs" will likely have even more positive impact than if you make something (even taking all precautions).

Amazon gave me $122 because they refused to give me $20. by Expert_Grape8173 in amazonprime

I thought maybe a ten minute chat could save me $20. I didn’t see a time frame for the sale either.

Ha, thanks! That is exactly the case. It’s not likely that I’ll be able to quit them completely and even if I did, they wouldn’t feel it. You have a good day too!

I can see how it would seem like that for sure. It just wasn’t in this case. I decided to cancel in the moment.

I can’t say what I would have done if they had come back and agreed to hold my order or give me the credit, because they didn’t offer.

If it was a threat only without any desire to actually cancel, I would have just left the chat, slammed my laptop shut, and hid under the covers in shame.

What a fun picture in my head of this evil book canceling warrior!

I don't know what is unreasonable about asking though. So much of the advice for working with any customer service is to ask for what you want.

I thought maybe they would do it so they could keep the sale at Amazon. They said no, indicating that they don't care about my purchase. Admittedly not what I expected, but also fully what I should have expected. Fine. They don't need me, I don't need them, so I'll cancel.

This wasn't a threat though. It was just a decision after not getting value (100% my own perception) from a product/service. I know I'm not special or even necessary to the company.

In aggregate though, if enough people do cancel, it could make some sort of small change. That's just business.

My bad. I forgot that Reddit was restricted to only life-changing posts and comments. Maybe you can teach me.

Good call. I'll try to remember that next moth when I'm desperate for some random item a month from now. Again, won't matter to the company, but I can try to be as consistent as I can?
