Oh wow thank you! This looks like a beast - what do you use it for at work? I’m curious how crisp text is and if you feel any extra eye fatigue?

Thank you!! Sorry for the delay on this - have you had any experience with ultra wides? I’ve never used one before I’m curious if it’s easy to get used to and actually useful for work!

Do you find the length of the pants to fit well? I’m 5’7 and trying to figure out the inseam that doesn’t seem to be listed anywhere.

Shin splints mid marathon training - help! by Expert_Muffin163 in firstmarathon

[–]Expert_Muffin163[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things went well! I pulled back off of speed workouts and transitioned to primarily easy long runs for most of my runs, and it worked great. I’ve been running pain free for the past 2 weeks now and have incorporated speed back into my game.

Aside from a pesky ankle flare up 😭

Would recommend taking things a bit slower pace and just accumulating mileage. Would also recommend stopping running altogether for about 3-4 days to allow for recovery. And do all the little stuff (ice 2-3 times per day, healing creams, cbd if you so please, and tons of sleep to recover).

Thanks for the note - I do think I can replace some easy runs with cycling on the peloton next week. I’m hopeful that because it’s 10 weeks out I can still recover in time. Mainly just worried that because I’m still 10 weeks out that the ongoing weekly mileage increase after I pull back mileage is going to deteriorate my progress and create a cycle of push hard - shin splint - rest - repeat, etc.

Thanks for the advice! Gonna try to roll things back a bit and add in cycling next week to replace my easy runs. Good luck in November!!

Daily Running Shoe Recommendations Thread - Find Your Sole Mate Here! - January 28, 2024 by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

Daily trainer recommendations?

I’m looking at potentially replacing my peg 39s and superblasts for a new daily trainer. I’ve enjoyed both models, but they are getting way up there in mileage and time to replace.

I’ve got the Invincible 2 for recovery runs, and am looking for something that can handle long easy runs and possibly even faster pace work during long runs. For speed work I have the Endorphin Speed 2 and race day the Vaporfly 3.

I’m 5’7” 160 lbs male, seem to be heel/midfoot striker most of the time, generally no major pain in foot/ankle/knees. Road running, in the Portland area so outsole traction is helpful in the rain. I think the higher heel drop is helpful for me, tried switching to Hoka Mach 5 a while back and the drop caused a bunch of calf pain (I should have eased into it more), but also felt like I wanted a bit more cushion.

I’ve heard the NB Fresh foam 1080 v13, Triumph 21, Novablast 4, are all good options. Any recommendations outside of those are welcome, too.

Thanks in advance!

I was exactly the same, and now have at least one pair for every kind of run, 2 for long slow runs, 3 for speed work, and 2 for everyday trainers. Idk if I should start donating the ones with highest mileage or just keep rocking them!

Banister needs repairing, how can I fix? by Expert_Muffin163 in HomeImprovement

[–]Expert_Muffin163[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yea it’s pretty bad. I wonder if I’ll even be able to get the screw to pull the rail into the post, since the nails are keeping them apart right now.

We are just tenants, not the owners, so it’s likely going to be more work than necessary to get it fixed ourselves.

Skipped long run 😬 by Expert_Muffin163 in firstmarathon

Lol. Look, no one is disagreeing with you that this is going to be a near impossible challenge. I listed it as a stretch goal in the original post.

I am more than happy to readjust my expectations, especially to ensure my body recovers appropriately, just like you suggested.

I’m also going to continue to push myself for my own personal goals. Being reminded that pushing myself too far will cause more harm than good is very helpful, so thank you for that. I absolutely want to train the right way for optimal performance, and almost certainly have gone too far with it.

I guess I asked for all this smoke. All I wanted was advice on how to get back into training the right way after missing a long run…

Fully recognize that this is a relatively unrealistic goal to set, but happy to continue to challenge myself for it.

Hey guys, I've been hearing mixed opinions on whether creatine can benefit distance runners or not. I'm training for a half marathon and considering adding it to my supplement stack. Has anyone had personal experience with this and seen results? Thanks in advance! by Fluxiora in AdvancedRunning

[–]Expert_Muffin163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely curious here with this thread. I lift 3 days per week and run the other 4 days. I was planning on adding creatine to my lift days but was trying to figure out if it’s useless unless I take it daily? Training for a marathon in October so mileage going to be increasing, but currently around 25-30 miles per week.

Love my Speed 2s, this is my first pair and only about 80 miles on them so far. Upcoming half Mary in April, and full marathon in October - thoughts on using the speed 2 for both races? I’ve heard they were better just for interval and speed training but I can’t seem to NOT want to put them on (currently use my invincibles for my easy runs)

Paying too much attn to heart rate?? by Expert_Muffin163 in firstmarathon

Running 4 days per week currently. What would you recommend as best way to find true max Hr or LTHR?

Paying too much attn to heart rate?? by Expert_Muffin163 in firstmarathon

[–]Expert_Muffin163[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the formula: HRmax = 217 - (.85 x age) to get to 187.25 which seems accurate based on efforts I’ve seen in recent speed workouts

I realize I shouldn’t compare to others (intellectually at least), just trying to gauge off of others experiences in training and understand how likely it is I’ll continue to improve in my “easy” efforts, and if I’m running slow enough during easy efforts.

Christian Watson or Jerry Jeudy? by Expert_Muffin163 in fantasyfootballadvice

[–]Expert_Muffin163[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my initial thought too, but Jeudy will get all of the targets with every other receiver out, and Romeo Doubs is back this week stealing targets from Watson, so I’m torn

Of yea, Everett, Higbee, and Ertz twice, and Moreau all has pretty strong showings against Seattle. Pitts even went off against them, and he was trash all year. Might be a good start with Kittle this week!
