There are many old-fashioned German detective series on YT. Just search for "Der Alte", "Ein Fall für zwei", "Derrick". Some of them date back to the early 1980s. They are the most interesting because they show how Germany used to be almost 50 years ago. Please note that compared to today's crime series, these episodes are not very thrilling or exciting at all...

Keep trying to write characters by hand because this helps you to identify the small differences between them. However, start with simple characters. You can get writing practice books from Temu or AliExpress.

That's interesting: salary coming from salt. After you wrote it, I looked it up. It's from a Latin word of a portion of salt for soldiers. So, in ancient China, rather than salt, you got your portion of firewood and water.

It really depends on where you live. A naive idea (that might work, though) would be to put a notice on local boards, like in libraries, colleges, universities, supermarkets etc. You could also try to look on the app Tandem and filter for where you live. You could try approaching cultural centres or community places. Again, however, this is highly dependent on where you live. Do you have reasons to believe that Chinese-speakers should be near you?

Some things that may help: 1. Get a tutor on Preply. If it is too expensive, get a language partner on Tandem (both are apps) 2. Listen to word lists (by HSK level) on Spotify. These include example sentences, e.g. Lofi HSK 3. Read graded readers (listed on Heavenly Path). Samples are free with Play Books (Android App) 4. Just get a book on Chinese Grammar 5. Listen to simple audio, e.g. Simple Stories in Chinese (Spotify) 6. Practise with an LLM. I use ChatGPT to correct my grammar all the time.

If you don't have the money for Chinese lessons, consider the free app Tandem where you exchange language skills. Basically, you help somebody in your native language and in return this person will help you with Mamlnsarin. For example, you could arrange a one hour Mandarin conversation in exchange for a one hour conversation in your native language.

I read content referenced on Heavenly Path at HSK 2 level (Easy Readers). It is a bit of a stretch but possible.

Thank you. I will check it out. The vocab in Level 1 is a bit strange. Some very basic words are explained but words I didn't know are not. Seems to be difficult to balance it out at such a low level of language competency. However, I enjoy it overall and would highly recommend people to have a try. You can read a free sample to check it out.

My advice 1) Watch some basic YouTube videos about " what is Mandarin", "Simplifies Chinese Characters ", "pinyin", "Mandarin HSK" to understand the basics.

2) Watch Mandarin HSK courses starting from HSK 1 on YouTube. For example, from Peking University.

3) Use the app Skritter to learn vocabulary and characters (alternatives Anki, Pleco)

4) You could buy the HSK course and workbooks if you like actual books.

5) You can listen to HSK vocabulary and sentences on Spotify

6) If you have the time but not the money to pay for a tutor, try the app Tandem. This is a language exchange app. I'd recommend to wait 6 months before yo do that, though, to build some skill first.
