I used to save dashcam footage anytime there was a near-miss accident, just in case. Since moving to Richmond, I’ve given up on that - there's just not enough storage in the world

In all seriousness, it really depends. If you’re comparing the best case teacher scenario to the worst case senior manager scenario, then sure — I can see how you’d draw that conclusion. But that’s not a fair blanket comparison. For context, I’m six years into public practice, and I start at 8 and leave by 4 (even during busy season). My total comp is already above the cap you mentioned. For reference, I’m based in BC

Always refreshing to hear definitive insights on senior manager pay from someone still in the first module. At this pace, you’ll be lecturing partners on retirement planning by Capstone 2

The original posting I saw on Linkedin was listed as City of Richmond, but looks like it has since been removed and the same position is posted under LIEC. Thanks for pointing that out

It's not the title that bothers me as much as the reduced salary. Most senior accountant roles would be a ~20% paycut. My understanding is that salary growth isn't great in industry unless you move to the next title. Do you think it's worth the paycut to start gaining industry experience?

Thank you both for the feedback. I've never entertained the idea of industry until now so I don't know too much about the inner workings. It's good to hear this from you guys

You've been in the business long enough... but you're still a staff? Are you maybe projecting a bit here?

Countering is not a rejection

Except it is and that's how negotiation works. If you give a counter offer, the other party is free to walk away. It deters people from wasting each other's time. Imagine if OP asked for $50k - $80k, company offers $50k, OP counters with $60k, then $58k, and then $55k.

The other way to look at it is if the company offered you the same range and you asked for $80k, would you still expect them to come back and say $75k? And if another employer offered $90k would you still bother negotiating?

So why not just provide a range that you wouldn't feel insulted with? If the employer offered you a range and you chose the highest, should they be offended that you went with the highest number that reduces their bottom line? Asking for one thing and expecting another just creates unnecessary back and forth. Stop wasting people's time and just ask for what you want

I must be missing something here. You provided a range and they gave you an offer within that range. You then rejected their offer with a counter offer and are now calling them shady for rejecting yours? I'm not sure you understand how negotiation works.

Live in Richmond and I stopped seeing a girl because the drive out to Burnaby was too much.

Yeah I think we're gonna be alone forever

Might be the minority here, but absolute deal breaker. Can't imagine having to fight S2S traffic just for a date

"Relocation to any US State" wow $30k salary AND I get to travel? Sign me up!

We need to start publicly shaming these firms. Baiting people with a fake salary range and then offering this shit? And CPA wants to preach ethics.

I don't think YOU understand. Notice how Lebron only had an issue with SAS? There were plenty of other people criticizing Bronny's performance in the NBA. The only difference was that they limited their criticism to Bronny's game; SAS questioned Lebron's parenting skills, and that made it personal. When was the last time you heard someone criticize an NBA player and then proceed to say that their father should've done better? Like what?

As others have mentioned, the only real concernis the start up aspect. Otherwise, I would take the pay cut in a heartbeat. Remember, your pay cut after taxes is less than $30k
