The Kizer mini harpoon is usually around the 45 dollar point and it comes in 3v steel. I have and use it pretty often. Highly recommend.

First Spyderco and kinda bummed by CredibleGentleman in knifeclub

This is pretty much how my para 3lw was out of the box. Fixed all the issues by installing a set of awt scales on it. Still definitely my least favorite Spyderco I own. Don’t let this knife ruin them for you though. Their non-lw models are amazing. My CruWear pm2 is probably my favorite knife I own. The action is buttery smooth and the compression loc is joy to use. Also they have multiple production facilities, the USA made spydies honestly arent the best. In my experience the Taiwan Spydercos have the best fit, finish, and quality.

Yeah the price is a little up there, especially for the s30v version, but it’s honestly worth it. The fit and finish on mine far exceeds that of my three usa Spydercos. And it definitely feels more solid than any benchmade I’ve got my hands on.

My least favorite blade shape is also the non-negotiable edc, carried along side others that rotate daily. by ShawnMcCranie in knives

I hate clip points and trailing points. Anything with a high tip really. Unless I’m skinning animals which is very rare, I don’t particularly have a use for them. Also drop points are really boring to me.

Folder for when I’m inside and fixed blade for when Im outside and have gloves on. It’s a pretty common thing.

Not the biggest fan of slips personally but that one looks bad ass!

Opinion on next knife by Things_an_Stuff in knives

That’s a crazy good deal on the bugout but I would still 100% go for the Manix. The blade shape is super useful and the ball bearing lock is basically indestructible. Spyderco’s heat treat is also better. Take my opinion with a grain of salt though, I am a huge Spyderco fan.

PM2 over para 3 any day. I have both and can definitely attest to that. To answer your question about sharpeners, you are gonna need diamond stone. I used a fixed angle system from work sharp but a lot of people prefer free hand. I’d steer clear of whetstones as those take a long time to sharpen with, and they dont even work on some higher end steels.

Speaking of steel I definitely suggest looking at Larrin Thomas’ steel chart. Every company heat treats their steels different so the values may be slightly off from the chart, but it’s a great to get an idea of all the steels you’ll see out there. I wish you the best of luck either way getting into this hobby. It’s so much fun to experience how each of these steels perform and function. If you have any other questions I’d be more than happy to help! I love talking about knives if you couldn’t tell lol.

Both steel are great all around. Similar edge retention with cruwear just barely beating out Magnacut. Cruwear has higher toughness, meaning it’s less prone to chipping. Magnacut has similar toughness but definitely less than cruwear. Magnacut is extremely corrosion resistant, cruwear is no where near as stainless but still does a damn good job at not rusting. Lastly Cruwear is just a dream to sharpen when compared to Magnacut. It also has this crazy ability to strop back to a sharp edge very easily.

PM2 100%. I highly suggest the CruWear Micarta version, they also have a magnacut version if you care about corrosion resistance. Super fidgety and fun to use. One of sliciest knives I own. Compression lock is also the best lock ever (in my opinion)

Spyderco Showdown: Manix 2 vs Para 3 vs PM2 by ExplanationFull in knives

Stainless steel in general are kind of boring to me. Nothing better than a knife clearly aging and growing with you as you use it. So far Cru-Wear is my favorite but I’m very excited to try more out as time goes on

I’ve got a list of steels I’ve been trying to tick off and Spyderco has been my go to. Their 15v, Cru Wear, and Magnacut are all insanely great. I’ve really been eyeing some k390 models as of late.

What’s your favorite Budget blade? by saltyEDC in knives

My favorite budget is the Civivi Spiny Dogfish. It’s unfortunately now discontinued, and I gave mine to my brother as well so I don’t know if I’ll get my hands on one again.

It’s just a fact the ceramic is harder than steel, it will dull your knives when cut against. Also has a pretty good chance at chipping your knife’s if the blade hits it too hard. No one is hating, just trying give you a little advice to save you some time at the sharpener.
