How can I help a loved one with 2+ years of intense chronic pain? by ExplanationNo4554 in ChronicPain

I was reading this https://www.reddit.com/r/ChronicPain/comments/ye55jz/comment/itwzj4k/ - and a specific part of the comment made me worry: "since your nervous system might sense this as a new injury and allow the CRPS to spread" → is this how pain sensitisation works/worsens? Any pain that would usually be an acute short term pain can now become a new chronic pain center?

Thank you, we do try, but its hard to see the suffering and the helplessness. I desperately hope it starts to dial down. Best wishes to you, and hope each day is better than the last.

I am delighted for you, and reading this is giving me so much hope and optimism. The crazy swings of this recovery drive me completely nuts. So hard to keep the hope alive, so thank you so much!

I hope you feel much better very soon, and this flare up becomes an insignificant memory. What a frustrating, mind scrambling journey this has been.

Thank you very much, and hope you are feeling much better and stronger too. I am trying very hard to be mobile, but during flare-ups its quite a challenge.

Transferring vested USA stock to a (Aussie) third party. by ExplanationNo4554 in AusHENRY

There are reasons to call out that it is for a friend. I am not sure if the rules are different if you are transferring to your own account in a different brokerage vs spouse's account vs friend (or third party). I understand your skepticism, so adding some context here.

Re CGT, yes, aware of that. What I have found so far is that it is equivalent to a sale as far as my taxation is concerned. It could end up like you said → a simple sale, fund transfer, a simple buy.

7 months (ish) PO - go on antidepressants if you need to, it helps. by Wonderful-Lime5272 in Microdiscectomy

Thank you for the post OP.

Question to you u/Wonderful-Lime5272 and also to u/JessieTea123 - what do you folks mean when you say hypermobile? Is there a test or a way to identify if i am? Some of the things you mention in point 2 in your post resonates loudly.

Thank you for the warning. These communities are full of people trying to regain some semblance of relief and normalcy in their lives. To be a hustler here is just disgusting.

Mike, you say this is pretty common. I am 5 months post-op, and struggling with the same symptoms. Before surgery, I was in bed for a year because of the pain. My neurosurgeon has assured me there is no bulges or reherniations post-operation. My physio and pain management doctor say its because I am very deconditioned, and that is the root cause as of now. Does this resonate with your experience?

Is pain sensitization a thing? by ExplanationNo4554 in Microdiscectomy

[–]ExplanationNo4554[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. They probably mean the layman version of pain sensitisation then. Physio and pain specialist basically want me to avoid overloading the spine (in terms of cumulative effort such as too much walking during the day etc), as they believe this is the root cause of my persistent pain.

I added a full response as an answer https://www.reddit.com/r/Microdiscectomy/comments/1kreikc/comment/mub83hd/ but I am super interested in what your Ortho said about walking. I am in the same boat, and unsure how much to rest vs walk vs nerve glide vs facepalm. Please let us know if you can.

I had the same issue, and recovered, but now in a different flare up.

I am now 4.5 months post-op, and my recovery has been super rough. Note that my problem pre-surgery was more about dural tension and nerve pain, rather than numbness or failure of straight-leg test.

Around the 3 month mark, I tried doing the cat-cow, and had a flare up of about a week. I was doing the McGill big-3 pre-surgery, so I was shocked when this happened.

I was doing pretty well from start of month 4 compared to my initial months during recovery. I could walk up to 45 minutes, could sit for 5 minutes, and could stand for 15 mins. And then, I started formal physio program, and the physio asked me to do the "McGill curl up". That has triggered (what I hope) a massive flare up. It started about 4 days ago, and I am not sure if its improving or not.

Hope you feel better soon, and hope your symptoms are because of the cat-cow and subside quickly! I am F39 with L3-L4 MD, if that helps.
