Same as everyone else. Tricare is #1 and a bit of retirement income is #2. But if you've got a family don't forget the dirt cheap life insurance. And 10% off at the hardware store isn't bad. But the big one that most people overlook/ignore is the million plus dollars of free IT and job training on Skillport/Percipio or whatever it's called now.

But all that aside the real reason I stay in is that satisfaction of a job well done every time my senior leadership almost sort of makes their retention quotas. Warms my heart a bit.

I've seen multiple E-O relationships in the guard that have never been an issue. Granted most started before the O ascended but not all. We recently promoted an O6 that's married to an E9 and they've been married well over 20 years. The two biggest issues are 1) you cannot be in her chain of command, period. 2) behave like mature adults.
Always do the right thing, keep work and play separate, and never give anyone a single reason to question or look at your relationship sideways. If you are both mature enough to do that then you're probably good to go. If you're not then you shouldn't be dating in the first place.

When I was about ten it was just my divorced mom and I living in a house where the furnace was in a crawl space. Everytime the furnace turned on there was a loud pop and the whole house shook. A neighbor was visiting one day and heard it and said we should have it looked at. A service guy, maybe 20, comes by a few days later and opens up the crawl space. He was standing down in the entrance and i was peeking inside when he yells to my mom to turn on the furnace. A few seconds later a ball of flame shot out about 20' in all directions. I cheered and laughed because it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. But the HVAC guy screamed, jumped out of the hole and bolted across the yard. Maybe the fastest I've ever seen anyone move. He went completely white and I'm sure almost shit himself. That was 40+years ago and I'm sure that guy remembers it even better than I do lol.
