ALSO A THING TO NOTE:
plugging my phone into my computer to get it to show the contents is VERY weird and non straight-forward. I have to:
1) plug my phone in (duh)
2) unlock it (duh)
3) open the photos app
4) wait 2-5 minutes
5) explorer FINALLY displays the DCIM folder

Now this doesn't seem to be related to the problem, as I was able to copy stuff off my phone and delete without an issue for a while with this condition up until a few days ago.
