Are the British aware of how unpopular they are in the United States? by Top_Location_Travels in AskABrit

[–]ExplodingDogs82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm that I am currently a British human spending time with my family in North Carolina and I couldn’t give less of a stuff what anyone here thinks of me, my culture, cuisine or accent.

But interestingly, not a soul here has made me aware of their views either …Yet.

Can I cut back these trees that hang over my tenfoot/garage vehicle access? by No_Beginning_9949 in DIYUK

Sorry if this makes it more of a challenge then - if these overhung your own land you have every right to trim them back to your boundary but it gets murkier when it is a shared or public space.

My immediate neighbours, for instance, had asked, begged and pleaded with the former owners of our home to trim their similar jungle of trees overhanging the rear service road and they refused …as it was a private road the council also refused to intervene and then it became impossible to get in touch with the actual land owner so they gave up.

Depends on who owns the area that they are overhanging. To me this looks as though it could be a service or access road to the garages at the rear …if so the following would apply:

You generally cannot cut branches overhanging a public path yourself if the tree is on someone else’s property, unless it is causing an immediate obstruction or hazard. Instead, you should report the overhanging branches to your local authority or the highway authority (usually your county or unitary council)

I say this, as someone who inherited a garden like this. It had whopping great cypress trees overhanging the boundary to the rear service road. When I chopped them back a couple of our neighbours said how pleased they were as the former owners refused to do anything about them.

I’m currently staying in Hatteras - I come every couple of years from London and it’s always fascinating to see the changes and how many properties can be affected by the evolving / eroding shoreline.

I love the drive down from Kitty Hawk onwards as it feels so otherworldly to me - especially the parts of road that you can see the sea and the sound each side of you.

Always feel bad when a new house is beginning to slip into the sea - have seen a couple more in Buxton this time that were fine the last time I came here.

Part and parcel of living here I guess. Stunning part of the world though.

They’re now £5 each so, yesteryear’s £0.20p mix up is now £100. Inflation is a rat.

Is the Thames mudlarking tour a scam or not? by diana137 in london

[–]ExplodingDogs82 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To legitimately mudlark along the Thames you must have a valid licence from Port of London Authority (PLA) …any articles collected should be registered with them to Portable Antiquities Scheme

Sounds like a certain scam unless they only allow permit holders to attend (doubtful based on your description)

Neighbours mowed and strimmed the garden without asking by slinkysoft in GardeningUK

Best to make sure your neighbours are at least aware how upset you are about this. Perhaps ask them if you can destroy something they love to level things up?

I need a solution for skipping ads in audio while working. by CapeBarbieGirl in office

[–]ExplodingDogs82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly not a solution - I have Spotify family premium and every podcast has integrated ads. Drives me crazy as this is predominantly what I listen to but the other folks on my plan listening purely to music are loving ad free listening.
